The Yuzu and Ryujinx Nintendo Switch emulators on PC have made great leaps over the past few years of development. Yuzu’s at the point where newly-launched flagship titles like Metroid Dread are already running on PC at 4K/60 FPS with an entry-level i5-8400/GeForce GTX 1060 combo.

The Yuzu emulator on PC has come very far over the past couple years of development. In terms of compatibility and performance, Yuzu and its competitor Ryujinx are now at a point today where flagship titles like Metroid Dread run at a locked 4K/60 FPS mere days after the official launch on Switch

Metroid Dread released on October 8th. As a side-scroller, it’s more of a direct continuation to the original Metroid games on the NES and SNES. While MercurySteam’s art direction is faultless here, visuals don’t really push the Switch hardware much, which could explain how well the game runs on Yuzu and Ryujinx.

Last year’s multi-core update to Yuzu brought significant boosts to playability in more intensive titles like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In BOTW’s case, Yuzu actually runs the 30 FPS Switch title at 60 FPS, providing a meaningfully better experience than the docked Switch. We’re looking forward to seeing how Yuzu progresses and how it’ll tackle technically advanced late-gen Switch titles in the years to come.
