The successor to the Meizu MX6 has been a long time coming and it looks like the wait will go on for a while longer, with a Meizu executive slating the mid-ranger for a spring 2018 launch.

Meizu is regarded as one of the most prominent Chinese OEMs, and rightfully so, as the company is up there with others like Huawei and Xiaomi in terms of quality control. The Meizu MX7 has been touted to be released in the last few months of th year but company executive Yang Zhe has debunked those claims, stating that the device will be released in spring 2018.

The MX series looks to offer cheaper devices that bear similarities to those in the Pro flagship series, a relationship that's best mirrored by that between Huawei's Mate and Honor lines. The Meizu Pro 7 released a few months ago in July, with it being the first device to run on MediaTek's Helio X30 flagship SoC. The MX6, on the other hand, was released over 16 months ago, in July 2016, so its successor is quite overdue at this point. A Q2 release, though, means that its launch will likely be followed by that of the Pro 8 within a few months.

Not much is known about the MX7 but information points towards it being powered by MediaTek's newly released Helio P30, which is a weaker but more efficient SoC than the Helio X20 on the MX6.
