RTX 4080 laptops have seen decent price drops under US$2,000 in the second half of this year, but there is still room for significant price cuts especially over the next few weeks with Black Friday deals and holiday deals incoming. We are not even there yet, and Newegg is already offering the MSI Vector gaming laptop with an RTX 4080 dGPU at US$1,599 and, depending on the U.S. state one orders from, an additional ZIP111 code for 11% off can further lower the price to under US$1,500 if state sales taxes are low enough.

The Vector lineup is not exactly top-tier, so there are a few compromises here and there, mostly on the cooling system and screen. Otherwise, the specs are quite enticing for the price point. Sure, the i9-12900HX processor is already 2 years old, but it’s still comparable to upper mid-tier Raptr Lake. The RTX 4080 dGPU has a maximum 175 W TGP and the CPU-GPU max TDP is set to 230W. This configuration comes with 16 GB of DDR5-4800 RAM and 1 TB PCie 4.0 NVMe SSD storage.

On the display side, the 16-inch IPS panel offers only 45% NTSC color gamut, which translates to ~70% sRGB. It is also limited to 1920 x 1200 @144 Hz, but users can easily output to external screens via the HDMI 2.1 or the three USB-C connectors that support DisplayPort mode. One of the USB-C also supports Thunderbolt 4 speeds, and the port selection includes 1x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, 1x USB-A 3.2 Gen 2, full-size SD card reader, GbE jack and audio combo jack. Wireless connectivity is provided through a Wi-Fi 6E + BT 5.3 card.

Other features worth mentioning are the SteelSeries keyboard with per-key RGB and the 90 Wh battery that should provide decent uptime for the powerful dGPU. With the large battery, this model weighs 5.8 lbs (2.67 kg).
