Overall, the MSI Stealth 15M proved to be a great gaming laptop performer. Everything works as expected except for some bloatware which is a minimal issue. This laptop is certainly one of the most compact gaming devices for gamers on the go and would be great for eSports players who often travel. But then again, the high-end specs come with a great price. The MSI Stealth 15M is officially RM6899, and that's really digging deep into the wallet for most people. To be fair, that's the price range of high-end gaming laptops these days, but there is one gaming laptop that can challenge it - the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro at RM6799. Most would go for the latter due to the slightly better GPU performance, a bigger 1T SSD, plus a 16-inch display with 165Hz and 16:10 aspect ratio. It's not as compact, so I guess it depends on your priority.

When you put the Stealth 15M into the context of other gaming laptops released this year, like Dell's G15 Ryzen Edition, which also features an RTX 3060, the near $2000 Stealth 15M doesn't seem all that attractive.

Ever since we tested ASUS’s TUF Dash F15 (FX516) we were interested in reviewing other devices built around the Tiger Lake H35 platform. Well, the Stealth 15M from MSI is such a laptop, and we kind of got what we were looking for. As we found out back then, these CPUs can’t extract the most out of the RTX 3000 graphics cards. Of course, we are talking mainly about low settings, or e-sports titles, where the frame rates are higher, and thus need a faster CPU to be able to push the image to the push the higher amount of images.

But for $1,649, this gaming laptop should have better battery life and a more vibrant display. Consider picking up the Asus TUF Dash F15, which has a stronger GPU, a more colorful display, and longer battery life for $200 less than what the MSI Stealth 15M costs. Overall, the MSI Stealth 15M isn’t a bad gaming laptop, but there are many better options for the price.

MSI went with a thinner, more subtle design than some other gaming laptop designs, and that’s one of the best things about the Stealth 15M. If you're shopping in this price range (or are considering the $1,599 model, perhaps a better deal), there's little reason to steer clear of the Stealth 15M, though I'd be remiss not to point out that the Acer Predator Triton 300 SE is a uniquely good value at $1,399. It remains our top pick for ultraportable gaming rigs, and a worthy contender if portability is a priority and the MSI would stretch your budget. If you're looking for more power and you have the money to spend, the Alienware M15 R4 is the best 15-inch performer. Call the Stealth 15M our new favorite between the two.

So with the testing, temperature and acoustic testing done and dusted it’s clear the MSI Stealth 15M is a capable and very portable gaming laptop. It plays most with relative ease and is powerful enough for AAA gaming at decent refresh rates. It’s clear there is a trade-off between performance, acoustics and portability but, honestly, we believe MSI have nailed it. Importantly, performance isn’t lost when it’s working hard to cool the CPU and GPU in demanding gaming sessions and wearing a headset, which is typically done when gaming, would alleviate the issues with acoustics should the fans really annoy you. It’s a very aesthetic piece too. MSI has created a very nice looking laptop that doesn’t scream “I’M A GAMING LAPTOP” in your face when you take it out of your bag and put it on the desk. Much like its namesake, it’s stealthy, slim and sleek, and MSI has done a great job here with the styling to portray a slim and portable machine.

We quite enjoy looking at the lower-end of the laptop market from time to time as it gives a broader outlook of what’s on offer. The new Stealth 15M with its hardware spec and pricing slots into the low-to-mid range and is likely to be a popular choice for gamers wanting to keep to a tighter budget. 15M arrives in a beautiful chassis which looks pleasant to the eye and feels great to touch. Although the keyboard is RGB backlit, the rest of this model is subdued, elegant and blends into the office environment very well. Found within 15M we have the 4-core, 8 Core i7 11th Gen CPU, 16GB DDR4, 1TB M.2 SSD and the RTX 3060. Under this configuration we’re able to tap into some good performance.

For under £1,000 the MSI Stealth 15M delivers some very serious performance all wrapped up in a light and compact chassis with a rather fine keyboard. In the negative column, the battery run time is truly abysmal and the screen while fast, is dull and drab. The speaker system meanwhile is merely average, neither a strength nor a weakness. If you regularly use your laptop away from a power supply then this MSI is a non-starter, similarly, if you want to do any work that requires a colourful and colour-accurate display the Stealth 15M is again not for you. On the other hand, if you want a laptop for portability rather than mobility, and want something to run graphics jobs or games fast, then the Stealth 15M could be an affordable answer to your problem.

Ultimately, assuming you can stomach the short battery life, the value of the Stealth 15M hinges a lot on its price. I've seen this thing listed as high as $1,700 from retailers like Walmart, which is simply too much. At that point, you're much better off going for a notebook with a slightly smaller screen like the Alienware X14 and getting very similar performance, or opting for Asus' Zephyrous G14 while also saving a couple hundred bucks in the process. But if you can nab the Stealth for under $1,400, a lot of the system's trade-offs become a lot more palatable. I just wish this version of the Stealth felt more like James Bond and less like Agent Cody Banks.

Featuring an Intel Core i7-12280P CPU, NVIDIA RTX 3060 GPU and a chassis that weighs just under four pounds, MSI’s Stealth 15M offers a great balance of performance and portability. And thanks to its understated design, it’s a great system for people who want to keep a lower profile while gaming away from home. Unfortunately, some of its other components are somewhat mediocre, including its 720p webcam and dim 15.6-inch full HD display. However, the Stealth 15M’s biggest weakness is its battery life which lasted just four hours and 15 minutes on our test – the shortest time we’ve seen on any laptop this year. But if you can overlook its weak longevity and can find one priced at under $1,400, the Stealth 15M could be a decent value for people looking for a thin-and-light all-rounder.
