The brand-new GT76 Titan DT from MSI should be especially attractive to passionate gamers who can live with a heavy and huge chassis. Thanks to the Core i9-9900K and the GeForce RTX 2080, the 17-inch notebook offers plenty of power for modern games.

The MSI GT76 delivers huge performance, a great screen, impressive connectivity and accessible internals alongside. Build quality is decent – even if it isn’t perfect.

It’s certainly not for everyone, then, but the MSI GT76 Titan is a good example of a monster laptop that delivers maximum power inside a smaller space than a PC. Just remember that it’s still huge and expensive – so if you don’t need 4K performance and a top-tier work specification then you can save plenty of cash elsewhere.

MSI is mixing old and new and I'm here for it. The new is the lovely new silver design that's Camelot-meets-the-racetrack. It's a bold departure from the tried-and-true red-and-black gamer motif. The old is the company's kitchen-sink approach to gaming laptops. At $4,599, this laptop has just about everything, including an Intel desktop processor and a full Nvidia RTX 2080 GPU, which means it's plenty powerful for gaming and productivity.

Money no object? MSI's GT76 Titan DT gaming laptop is a desktop killer with an unlocked Core i9-9900K CPU and a GeForce RTX 2080 GPU, destined to be enjoyed by the few. It's a solid, if not necessarily better, alternative to Alienware's equally powerful Area-51m.

If that is you, you will also have to contend with paying the £4499 asking price for the MSI GT76 Titan DT 9SG. It’s certainly not cheap and you are clearly paying a heck of a lot towards MSI’s no-doubt extensive R&D into how to get an i9-9900K running at 5GHz in a laptop. If money is no object and you just want a balls-to-the-wall machine, this has to be up there as the fastest laptop we’ve ever tested.

MSI has created a beast of a laptop, but you have to be willing to spend more than a small car would cost if you want the latest and greatest hardware. Laptops like the GT76 DT-9SG are meant for gaming, and gaming alone. The bulk and noise would make this a very difficult laptop to live with, and that sounds off-putting, you should instead consider a more versatile machine that can also handle games.

The MSI GT76 Titan is an absolute beast of a gaming laptop, and should demolish any game you throw at it. However, the high price and lack of affordability might put some prospective buyers off.
