The native dark mode in the latest MIUI 10 beta covers most areas of the operating system — Phone, Contacts, Gallery, Screen recorder, Updater, Messaging — as well as the notification shade, volume slider, and the Recents menu. Xiaomi confirmed a month ago that MIUI 11 is in the works, so the stable MIUI 10 with dark mode should come out soon.

The upcoming Xiaomi Mi 9 is expected to be announced next week, and it will most likely run MIUI 11-themed Android out of the box. The Chinese company revealed last month that MIUI 11 is in the works, but they are still adding new features to the existing MIUI 10 software as well. The next big change in line is the introduction of a native dark theme — hopefully a system-wide one.

For now, those who want their MIUI interface dark can download quite a few such themes from the theme store, but virtually all of them have various issues that make them unusable for most of those eager to give them a chance. Fortunately, Xiaomi's latest MIUI 10 beta release comes with a dark theme that changes the looks of most system apps, such as Phone, Contacts, Messaging, Gallery, Calculator, Notes, Screen Recorder, and Updater. Even more, the theme also works with the Volume sliders, the Recents menu, and the Notification shade.

In addition to the above, the dark theme changes the looks of certain system areas such as Mi Account, Manage Apps, Data Usage, and so on. Since this is a beta, we can only hope that Xiaomi is planning to come out with a system-wide dark theme in the next stable build of MIUI 10. However, this makes a system-wide dark theme for MIUI 11 almost certain, and we should know all about it once Xiaomi's next flagship launches.
