Free-to-keep promotions on Steam are generally hit-or-miss, with some being nothing but abandoned experiments. Some, on the other hand, are worth trying, and the free-to-claim promotion that's currently available for Crown Champion: Legends of the Arena is a good example.
Originally released in 2016, it's a fantasy RPG and management simulator developed by Pilgrim Adventures and published by GrabTheGames. When not on sale, this currently free game on Steam goes for $4.99, but it's now available to claim and keep at no cost. It's worth noting that the title will return to its regular price on January 22, 2026, at UTC 17:00.
Set in the politically unstable Crownlands, Crown Champion: Legends of the Arena puts the players in charge of a fledgling gladiator house. One key highlight is that the game doesn't purely focus on combat. Instead, it also leans towards long-term management.
Players start with a rundown estate, with a barely functional infrastructure and a handful of inexperienced fighters. The main goal is to gradually rebuild into a full-fledged combat academy. As for the arena combats, they happen across progressively challenging venues, and outside the ring, players need to take care of taxation, their political standing, and juggle finances.
On Steam, this currently free game holds a respectable 84% positive rating that's accumulated from a total of 195 reviews. Players praise the depth and replayability, but some criticize the abrupt ending of the storyline and the lack of post-game expansions.
