If you like the idea of having a second monitor but don't have the desk space for one, then a portable monitor would be your best compromise. Lepow tells us that its range of 15.6-inch portable monitors is on sale this week including the 2020 Lepow Z1 with QLED for $170 USD and original 15.6-inch IPS portable monitor for $158 USD.
Based on our experience with the original IPS version, we recommend spending a little bit more for the newer quantum enhanced Z1 version instead. The older IPS model suffers from both a narrower gamut for noticeably shallower colors and a dimmer display that ultimately impact vibrancy. These drawbacks might be acceptable for users who mostly want to use the monitor for coding or emailing, but the quantum dot enhanced version is indubitably the better value of the two.
Other than the color and brightness differences, both monitors share the same native 1080p resolution and an almost identical chassis design. The monitors can be powered solely through USB-C albeit at lower maximum brightness levels depending on how much power the laptop or smartphone source can provide.
