Lenovo's business notebook generates less noise and heat, has a long battery life, and includes an inbuilt LTE modem. It has two RAM slots in addition to a Ryzen 7 APU, which provides enough computational capability. The starting price is around $900.

The Intel version of the ThinkPad L15 Gen 4 is a typical Lenovo business device that simply gets the job done no matter the task. Yes, the build is plastic but it’s also sturdy which is nice to see. Still, you can’t open the lid with a single hand. Considering the price tag of this laptop, the successor should be improved in this section. The spill-resistant keyboard is comfortable for work. It has a long key travel, clicky feedback, an optional backlight, and a NumPad. The well-known TrackPoint is here and it could be an important extra for some users. The touchpad is smooth but the accuracy isn’t the best one that we’ve seen so far. This reminds us that the upgradability of this laptop is decent – two SODIMM slots for up to 64GB of DDR4-3200MHz RAM but there is just one M.2 slot for Gen 4 SSDs. One of the main advantages of this device is the comfort under load. Even when the CPU is stressed at max, the single fan is almost quiet and the keyboard is just a bit warm.

The ThinkPad L-series laptops have done nothing but disappoint me recently, with the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 4 coming in at 3 stars, and now the Lenovo ThinkPad L15 Gen 4 crashing even lower. They’re both bad, and if you’re wondering why this is worse, it has a worse display and worse battery life. Just get the Acer Swift X — it’s $200 more for significantly better performance and a colorful display. I cannot in any conceivable realm recommend the Lenovo ThinkPad L15 Gen 4. (Unless the stars align to sell this machine for like $500.)

The Lenovo ThinkPad L15 Gen 4 is a decent enough business laptop that gets the basics right, but it's performance lags somewhat and there are much better options out there for about the same or slightly more money that make this laptop harder to recommend than other ThinkPads.

You won't find many Lenovo laptops not worth recommending, and almost no non-recommendable ThinkPads. The L15 Gen 4 has the brand's trademark build quality and splendid keyboard, but it's not a standout performer, and its display is disappointing considering the thousand-dollar jump between the base model and our review unit. Corporate fleet buyers will be content, but small offices and solo entrepreneurs can do better, even without springing for the world's-best Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon.
