Reviews for the Lenovo ThinkPad E560-20EWS00000

84% Lenovo ThinkPad E560 (Core i7, Radeon R7 M370) Notebook Review | Notebookcheck
Successful evolution. For the first time, Lenovo equips a ThinkPad from the E500 series with a high-quality IPS display as well as a graphics card with fast GDDR5 memory. The price including SSD and i7 CPU is still below 1,000 Euros (~$1096) – is it a bargain?

The Lenovo ThinkPad E560 is a worthwhile business notebook with a comfortable keyboard, long battery life and fairly good performance. However, it does have some trade-offs: It has a relatively dim screen with dull colors, and it's not MIL-SPEC tested against drops and extreme temperatures.

The first E-series laptop to have an IPS panel
Source: Laptop Media English Archive.org version
Again, the ThinkPad line leaves us with good impressions. The machine that we reviewed belongs to the E-series, which puts it in the mid-range, keeping it affordable for customers that are on a budget. Nonetheless, Lenovo made no compromise with the build quality, which is a pleasant surprise – the construction is sturdy and stable, the hinges are made of metal and the finish – wear-resistant. We highly appreciate the new integrated IPS panel, albeit its poor coverage of the sRGB color space. In other words, its presence will be more satisfying to those who seek better quality of multimedia entertainment, than to those whose work is color editing. In this train of thoughts, we must praise the E560 for its audio system that performed well in our tests.

Comment

Model: The Lenovo ThinkPad E560-20EWS00000 is a high performance laptop at affordable pricing. It features an Intel Core i7 6500U dual processor (6th generation), 8 GB DDR3L 1600MHz SDRAM, an AMD Radeon R7 graphic card with 2 GB VRAM, and a 192 GB SSD. The Windows 10 Home 64 bit system features a 6-cell lithium ion battery, which delivers a battery life of up to 9 hours.

Its matte 15.6.inch LED display features Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and delivers sharp, contrast-rich and clear images. The TrackPoint in the keyboard, is one of the unique features of Lenovo’s ThinkPad series laptops. For wireless connectivity, it comes with Bluetooth and Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 3160. The connectivity includes a DVD-RW / CD-RW MultiBurner, a VGA port, an HDMI port, three USB 3.0 ports, a audio combo jack and a 4-in-1 card reader (MMC, SDHC, SDXC, SD).

AMD Radeon R7 M370: Lower mid-range graphics card based on the GCN architecture with GDDR5 graphics memory and 6 compute units.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

6500U: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 520 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

15.60":

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.

In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.

In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.

86.25%: This is an above-average rating. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that about one fifth of all tested models receive a better rating.
