Lenovo squeezes an excellent keyboard and zippy Core i3 CPU into this lightweight machine, but the design and battery life could be better.

Style and great battery life are elements of a successful mainstream laptop. Apparently, the Lenovo IdeaPad Z360 ($750 direct) didn't get that memo. Design, one of the key differentiators among laptops for shoppers roaming through store aisles, is something that the Lenovo Z360 fails to address. Furthermore, battery life is too meager for a borderline ultraportable. Even though it has good processing power and is priced reasonably, there are much better laptops that don't cost that much more.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Z360 is a solid all-purpose thin-and-light laptop for the masses. It offers solid Core i3 performance, a 13-inch screen, and plenty of features—including a 500GB hard drive, an onboard DVD burner, and WiMAX connectivity—for just $749. Solid performance and plenty of features make the IdeaPad Z360 an attractive 13-inch laptop. If you prefer an optical drive and are on a limited budget, it’s a safe choice.

Lenovo's IdeaPad Z360 certainly won't be winning any style awards but it does offer some very strong performance. This is achieved by sacrificing size and instead of using traditional laptops components having a Core i5 processor and a DVD burner. The downside is that all this performance means that it won't be able to run for as long as the competition.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.

In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.

In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Onboard (shared Memory) GPU built in the GM45, GE45 and GS45 chipset (Montevina). Because of two more shaders and a higher core clock, much faster than the old GMA X3100. Still not advisable for gamers (DirectX 10 games not playable or only with very low settings). The integrated video processor is able to help decode HD videos (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , e.g., for a fluent Blu-Ray playback with slow CPUs.

NVIDIA GeForce 310M: The GeForce 310M is the successor of the GeFore G210M and based on the same chip with very similar clock rates (shader speed +30MHz to 1530MHz).

Intel Core i3:

350M:

The Core i3-350M is technically a Core i5-430M without the Turbo Boost overlocking feature. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.26 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.

Intel Core i5:

480M: The Core i5-480M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-620M) and clocks between 2.66-2.9 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.

450M: Should be similar to the Core i5-520M but without AES functions.
