Lenovo IdeaPad Y50
The Lenovo IdeaPad Y50 has a nice brushed metal design that makes it look really nice and professional. Interior wise, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y50 is equipped with an Intel i7 processor with a clocking speed of 3.2GHz. This is more than enough for most users. The secondary graphic card is very impressive as well. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M is one the best graphic cards you can get today. Gamers will be happy with it as even modern games can be played with maximum settings.
The 15.6 inch display is large so that the font and such will not seem too small. It has a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels which is just moderate. There are better screens out there, but the Lenovo IdeaPad Y50’s display is sufficient. The laptop weighs 2.4 kg, making it heavy by today’s standards. However, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y50 is not aimed at mobility.
All in all, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y50 is an excellent entry level laptop for gamers who don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for a high end gaming laptop. It is also apt for casual users provided they are able to accept the lack of mobility.

Entry price, high-end gaming. Lenovo's latest Y Series has the best of both worlds: Sleek, thin looks with exceptional performance for a very fair starting price of $1050. Though the notebook is marketed as an entry-level portable gaming machine, we believe even serious gamers should take a look at what the new Y50 has to offer.

We’ve already said that the most impressive feature of Y50 is its looks, which, besides representing aggressive design, contributes to the low weight ( for a gaming computer), combined with a slim body. Although the latter does not seem in favor of high frequencies for computing load, the video card holds up well and was able to work at maximum speed for a very long period of time. The screen, with its 282 pixels per inch and 4K resolution, is a big plus if you play light games, but not particularly great if you love the latest titles with heavy graphics. In the latter case, of course, you can simply reduce the resolution, but your heart will hardly allow this, given that you stand before an Ultra HD display.

Save for the screen and somewhat limited computing horsepower, the Lenovo Y50 is a very good package for its $1,519 or £999 (about AU$1,631) price tag. In a field of laptops that focus on filling out an internal spec sheet and stuffing it into a flimsy plastic chassis, the Lenovo Y50 is a breath of fresh air in good design. However, self-ascribed "hardcore" gamers that want a bit more oomph from their total desktop replacement should consider the $1,999 Gigabyte P35W v2. The GTX 870M-backed machine will simply run games better regardless, and it packs better battery battery life too boot.

The Lenovo Y50 delivers a lot of gaming oomph for a relatively inexpensive $1,249. You'll be able to play most titles at smooth frame rates in a handsome and portable 5.4-pound chassis. I also like that this rig delivers more battery life than other gaming notebooks in its class, It's just too bad that the screen on our configuration didn't wow as much as the other specs.

Lenovo's Y50 Touch is a well balanced system that is equally at home when used as a gaming system or as a general purpose performance system. The styling is agressive but not over the top like some gaming laptops on the market. The size and weight are quite good given the level of performance that it has. One downside for some is that it no longer features a DVD drive like past Y series laptops.

Th Lenovo Y50 is a good machine. You get a good looking model, with low noise cooling system, very good GTX 860M gaming performance which is the best for $1000 currenty. You also get very good speakers – probably the best for gaming laptops around $1000 and below. The touchpad is good and the build quality is high, even compared to the other gaming laptops.

Lenovo Y50-70 59-422475
The Lenovo Y50-70 gaming laptop has a dark gray and black surface that is aesthetically pleasing. This laptop (Y50-70 59-422475) is part of the Y50 series and is powered by Intel Core i7 4700HQ.
The 15.6 inch screen has a 1920x1080 pixel display that also functions as a touchscreen. This laptop offers an upper mid-range graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GTW 860M graphics adapter) that may not please hardcore gamers. It also does not offer the newer IPS technology (which allows viewing from all angles). However, it should be able to handle most games in high resolutions.
The gaming laptop is 2.4 kg in weight, which is notably lighter than most gaming notebooks. The red backlit keyboard is beautiful, but sadly the color is not adjustable. The Lenovo Y50 series laptop has an overly receptive touchpad that requires some toning down to prevent accidental activation while using the keyboard. The build quality of the laptop is good overall, but suffers from some spots that are made of plastics that are prone to breaking apart.
The laptop is slim at 2.4 cm, but has a strong sound system that delivers with crisp details. Lenovo packs the system with pre-loaded software that are mostly bloatware. However, there are some useful gadgets worth keeping. The laptop lasted around 5 hours on web surfing in high brightness settings.

There's nothing to dislike about the Y50 Touch, unless you're finicky about wanting the trackpad centered. It is solid from all angles, bringing with it a clean and mean design that makes no bones about what kind of performance can be expected. Unlike some other models, this laptop feels very solid and well-built, nary a creak of plastic to be found. This combination of design, construction, and performance means all your needs will be satisfied, and so the gamers among us can rest assured that the Y50 Touch is an all around solid choice.

Despite its flaws, the Lenovo Y50 is still an attractive budget gaming laptop and a considerable improvement for the Y series. Equipped with a fast Intel Core i7 CPU, 16 GB of RAM, and an NVidia GeForce GTX 860M GPU, the laptop provides great overall performance capable of running just about every game on the market. The slimmer chassis design and longer battery life only make the laptop that much more desirable.

When you see that a notebook has a 3840 x 2160p display, you expect brilliant color with precise detail. But the view on the $1,499 Lenovo Y50-70 Touch is rather...meh. The laptop offers respectable mid-level performance with a rather elegant-looking chassis and a comfortable keyboard. Overall, the Y50-70 Touch can't hold a candle to better-equipped models that don't cost that much more.

Does the Y50 Touch make sense for you? If you absolutely must have touch, it’s a reasonable choice, provided you’re okay with the bothersome surface temperatures, you don’t mind the weak LCD performance, and you plan to replace the storage drive at some point. Otherwise, we’d recommend looking at the regular Y50 instead, or perhaps saving up a bit more dough and plunking it down on a full-blown high-end gaming machine

The design of the Lenovo Y50 is very edgy and definitely looks like a gaming laptop. The lid has brushed aluminum panels with a criss-cross pattern instead of the typical horizontal brushed look. While it is a desktop replacement, it only weighs 5.29-pounds, which is actually not the heaviest out there. It's also relatively thin too at 0.94-inches.

In terms of gaming performance, Lenovo’s Y50 is one of the best laptops in its class. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for a portable gaming rig on a budget. Unfortunately, Lenovo compromised several key components—the keyboard, trackpad, and (most importantly) the display—in order to offer the Y50 at a mid-range price. Hook up a mouse, keyboard, and external display and you’ll have a solid gaming machine. If you can’t tolerate those compromises, you might have to bite the bullet and spend more money for a competitor’s offering.

The retail list price on this machine is $1,499, but you can find it at online retailers for around $1,200. However, even at that price, Lenovo is asking an awful lot from buyers for a system that isn’t going to please hardcore gamers and just doesn’t justify the price tag it requests from more mainstream users.

The laptop uses a powerful 2.5GHz (up to 3.5GHz in Turbo mode) Intel Core-i7 4710HQ quad-core processor with 8GB of RAM and a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M graphics that comes with 4GB of dedicated memory, which provides good results, so most of the newer games can be played with advanced settings, despite the slightly higher resolution. The impression spoils a standard TB hard disk so the additional system SSD in this case would really meant a lot. Nonetheless, the fact is that excellent performance is provided from a laptop available at this price, taking into account the configuration, and definitely gets a recommendation as an entry-level gaming model.

Lenovo Y50-59421832
The Lenovo Y50-59421832 or Lenovo Y50 Touch, as it is more commonly known as, is a gaming capable laptop that will also save some cash to purchase those games. It is a very capable platform that delivers impressive hardware specifications encased in a handsome black chassis with Lenovo's trademark red LED lit island-style keyboard. Display on the laptop is a 10-point multi-touch capable 15.6 inch FHD panel which delivers satisfactory performance.
There is a 4th Gen Intel Core i7-4710HQ quad core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM and an Nvidia GTX 860M with 4 GB VRAM. Users can either opt to have a 1 TB SSHD with 8 GB NAND flash or 512 GB SSD storage. Either variant will definitely deliver excellent performance. Most games can be run at high settings. Audio quality is also good with JBL speakers and Dolby Advanced Audio V2 technology.
The Windows 8.1 platform weighs around 2.5 kg and comes with other features such as a 720p webcam, Bluetooth 4.0, Intel Dual Band Wireless AC adapter, two USB 3.0 ports and much more. Battery life is decent with a 4-cell Lithium-Ion pack.

The Lenovo Y50 Touch is a solid gaming laptop, with good performance and a reasonable price, but it's in a category where performance is often stellar and price is usually a secondary concern. For an off-the-shelf gaming laptop, it's as good as you'll find at your local retailer, and it comes in at half the price of the Razer Blade. Despite the price difference, the Razer Blade keeps its Editors' Choice designation thanks to better portability, longer battery live, and more gaming power.

The Lenovo Y50 Touch was, on paper, the answer to my search for the perfect gaming laptop. Not too big, not too small; just powerful enough; decent-looking; and with a touchscreen. Lenovo Y50-59432235
Despite being categorized as a gaming laptop, the Y50 features rather mid-range hardware compared to the other recently released gaming laptops. Lenovo's latest laptop cuts off a lot of the bulk compared to its predecessor of the Y510p series, and ends up being a lot lighter at only 2.4 kg and barely 2.54 cm thick. It has a 15.6 inch screen, which is pretty decent for the casual laptop user, but slightly lacking for a gaming laptop range where 17 to 18 inch screens are more common. Subwoofers are at the underside of the laptop and make for a great sound.
Being in the gaming laptop category, it boasts powerful hardware such as an Intel Core i7-4700HQ processor, 16 GB RAM, and a GTX 860M Nvidia graphics card. The latter can smoothly run the latest new games in medium to high settings. With a battery life of 2 to 3 hours in use, it is able to outlast most gaming laptops, but not by much. The Lenovo Y50 might not be the most powerful laptop in the market, but it runs most of the latest games and programs fairly well and is definitely one of the most value for money gaming laptops in the market.

Asking for a 4K display in a 15-inch laptop may be a bit of stretch, and we've only seen a couple of other examples to date. In this case, the included graphics card isn't up to the task of high-end UHD gaming, but you still get the benefit of a better-looking screen, plus touch for all those times when you're not playing a game (trust me, a touchscreen makes Windows 8 much more tolerable).

Lenovo IdeaPad Y50-70-59441231
The Lenovo IdeaPad Y50 Notebook is a gaming laptop with features that would excite enthusiasts. Firstly, there is a highly capable fourth gen 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 processor. Next, the RAM onboard is 8 GB DDR and upgradable to 16 GB as there are two slots available. The screen has a size of 15.6” and a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. To churn out that much pixels, a GeForce GTX 960M with dedicated 4 GB DDR5 VRAM is used. A Samsung SSD with a capacity of 512 GB is used for storage and the operating system is Windows 8.1. The keyboard on this IdeaPad features a red backlight, which makes typing and gaming in the dark easy. As for the battery, the 4 cell battery can last up to 4 hours on regular Wi-Fi use. There are three USB ports on this notebook, whereas two of them are USB 3.0 ports. Besides that, there are an HDMI out, a Multi Card slot and also a Kensington lock for security. With the battery plugged in, this notebook only weighs in at 2.4 kg, which is relatively light considering the display size. As a verdict, this gaming notebook sets its self apart from the rest with its 4K display and the ability to play the latest game titles at high quality.Specifications

The Lenovo Y50 is a good-value gaming laptop, and a pretty aggressive competitor to other laptops in this class like the Acer V Nitro and the various MSI options around the price, including the GS20. Last year the Y50 was a bit of a dodgy option given its limited screen quality, but in the 2015 upgrade to IPS panels (for both the 1080p and 4K resolutions) and the bump from a GTX 860M to GTX 960M GPU (a slight but worthwhile upgrade) Lenovo has solved some, if not all, of its problems.

As expected, buying the more expensive notebook here, the Lenovo Y50, will bring you better performance and overall user experience due to the excellent build quality, design and superb sound. On the contrary, the GL552 excels in other important areas like screen quality and cooling system which is a big deal to consider when you add up the price tag. But keep in mind that the screen quality comes at a price as our tests indicate the presence of PWM (screen flickering) across all brightness levels except 100%. The same applies for the Lenovo Y50, but the frequency of the emitted light there is 21.6 kHz and can be considered way less harmful to your eyes.

We were pleased with the overall design of the machine giving a distinctive look, premium materials while maintaining low weight (2.4 kg) and slim profile (24.5 mm). However, this notebook has its own drawbacks like leaving easily smudges on the exterior and interior, the keyboard is lacking multimedia buttons and the touchpad design isn’t all that great. The cooling system is made with style, but fails to deliver the needed airflow for keeping the internals cool. You will easily notice the heat on the top side of the keyboard and we strongly recommend using an external cooling pad with airflow above 60 or 70 CFM. This will have a huge impact on the user experience.

Comment
Lenovo: Lenovo ( "Le" as in the English word legend and "novo" (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. From 2004, the company has been the largest laptop manufacturer in China and got the fourth largest manufacturer worldwide after the acquisition of IBM's PC division in 2005. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company also produces monitors, projectors, servers, etc.
In 2011, Lenovo acquired the majority of Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Lenovo took over Motorola Mobility, which gave them a boost in the smartphone market.
From 2014 to 2016 Lenovo's market share in the global notebook market was 20-21%, ranking second behind HP. However, the distance decreased gradually. In the smartphone market, Lenovo did not belong to the Top 5 global manufacturers in 2016.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
