The Leica M11 is getting a new edition with a glossy black brass body, which should give the full-frame rangefinder camera an attractive patina after prolonged use. Leica is also offering the 50 mm f/1.2 Noctilux in a black paint version to match.

The Leica M11 has been available in either silver or black since its launch in January 2022, and now a variant is being released with a glossy black brass body instead of chrome-plated aluminum. This makes the camera around 110 grams heavier, but it offers a glossy surface that should develop a patina after prolonged use, as the image embedded below shows.

This new variant also dispenses with the red Leica logo on the front in favor of large Leica lettering on the top. Compared to the regular black Leica M11, the manufacturer has also made a few other changes. For example, the button for changing the lens is black instead of silver, while the design of the ISO and shutter speed ring and the control dial on the back have been adjusted. The "Made in Germany" lettering is white on this model.

Surprisingly, the camera adopts the technical specs of the Leica M11 instead of the Leica M11-P, meaning that it only has 64 GB instead of 256 GB of internal storage and does without the CAI module for Content Credentials. A 60 MP full-frame sensor is installed, as is an optical rangefinder, a UHS-II card reader and WiFi 5 for connecting to the Leica Photos smartphone app. The Leica M11 does not have autofocus or image stabilization.

Leica has also presented a black-painted version of the Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50 ASPH. to accompany this model, a new edition of the fastest Leica lens from 1966, which is characterized above all by an unique bokeh, but the speed is still impressive almost 60 years after the launch of the original.

Price and availability

The glossy black Leica M11 is now available for an RRP of $9195, $200 more than the standard black model. The Leica Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50 ASPH. costs $8,295, corresponding to a surcharge of $300 over the standard black variant. Further details on this set can be found on the Leica website.
