Ubisoft is remaking the legendary Heroes of Might and Magic III in full 3D, bringing the beloved strategy classic to modern platforms in 2027 with new visuals, multiplayer features and support for decades of community-created content.

Ubisoft has surprisingly announced a full 3D remake of the cult classic Heroes of Might and Magic III, bringing the 1999 turn-based strategy game to modern platforms in 2027. Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake (HoMM3R or HoMM III R) is being developed by Ubisoft’s Chengdu and Shanghai studios.

The game will include the original Heroes of Might and Magic III campaigns along with the classic Armageddon’s Blade and The Shadow of Death expansions. All nine factions will return, while the campaigns will be connected into a continuous story with a new introductory prologue, epilogue and additional cinematic scenes.

The biggest change is the move from the original’s fixed 2D isometric graphics to fully 3D environments with a free camera. Built in Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine, the remake will feature 4K visuals, dynamic lighting, real-time weather and seasonal changes.

The core gameplay remains familiar, with exploration, hero progression, army building, resource management and turn-based tactical battles. Ubisoft is also adding quality-of-life improvements and new planning tools.

Perhaps the most important feature for longtime fans is support for community content. Ubisoft says the remake will remain compatible with thousands of maps and campaigns created by the community over the past 25 years. Updated editor tools and an in-game hub will allow players to find, download and share new creations.

Multiplayer will support up to eight players, with updated matchmaking and simultaneous turns, while the classic Hot Seat mode will also return.

The remake is coming to Xbox Series, PlayStation and PC via Ubisoft Connect, Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as Ubisoft+. Alongside the remake, Ubisoft has released Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete on Steam for the first time.
