There is no exact indication of when the Sony PlayStation 6 might launch. PS6 leaks and rumors have delivered conflicting information regarding the release date. The same is true for the PS6 price. Leaker Moore's Law Is Dead has warned fans against believing these PS6 pricing rumors.

There has been a lot of online discourse surrounding the Sony PlayStation 6. From the PS6 release date and price to AMD RDNA 5-based performance, it seems there is a new Sony PS6 leak every other day. However, fans need to exercise caution when it comes to taking PlayStation 6 leaks and rumors at face value.

Take, for example, the case of the PS6 release date. We have seen some leaks claim that Sony will release the next-gen console in 2027, while some rumors claim a 2028 release date. The truth? Sony itself doesn’t know when it will release the PS6, as the company has yet to lock down a firm release date.

Keeping this in mind, what are the chances that Sony has decided on a price for the PS6? Little to none seems to be the only answer, as Moore’s Law Is Dead cautions gamers against trusting PS6 pricing leaks.

MLID sounds off on X that Sony will not decide on a final price for the PS6 “until the last minute”. This “last minute” seems, per the leaker, to be H1 2027. Based on this, MLID advises fans to stop trusting the PS6 price leaks that provide a certain figure, like the $1,000 PS6 MSRP that we sometimes hear about.

We have to agree with MLID here. Pricing is one of the hardest things to nail down when it comes to leaking consumer tech. GPU makers like Nvidia have shown us time and again that companies can change the price of a product at the last minute. With the current DRAM supply crisis forcing OEMs to reevaluate their supply chain on a daily basis, it makes sense that Sony has neither decided on an exact release date nor an exact price for the PS6.

That said, when it does come time to decide, MLID has argued in the past that the PS6 could cost less than what many people are expecting. Sony knows that it needs to keep the price as low as possible to drive sales. So, it won’t surprise us if the base PS6 ends up costing less than the $899 PS5 Pro (get a “Renewed” PS5 Pro on Amazon).
