Leaker expects a Kingdom Hearts announcement at D23's Friday showcase

Leaker Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK) posted on Friday (Aug 14) that a Kingdom Hearts announcement is planned for D23 today. He proposed two possibilities: that Coco will be confirmed as a world in Kingdom Hearts IV, or that Disney will reveal a Kingdom Hearts TV show or film.

An hour later he seemingly talked himself out of his own words. Presenting a video game during the Entertainment Showcase would be unusual, he wrote, since everything else on Friday's slate is a series or a movie. Plus, Kingdom Hearts already has its own panel on Saturday. He then reversed again after a follower pointed out that D23's official description of the Friday showcase explicitly lists games alongside movies, television and live stage productions.

The Honda Center showcase is from 7 to 9 p.m. PT. The dedicated session, "Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts" will be held on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. PT. It will be livestreamed on YouTube, with Disney's Nana Gadd, Kingdom Hearts IV co-director Tai Yasue, and voice actors Haley Joel Osment and David Gallagher attending.

There is a third candidate Richtman doesn't mention in his X post. Dataminers pulled a Gummi Ship car decal carrying Sora's outfit textures out of Rocket League earlier this month. Since Epic owns both RL and Fortnite, this could mean that there's a potential Fortnite crossover early in Chapter 7 Season 4, expected around August 20. This announcement would fit a Friday entertainment slot far better than a Kingdom Hearts IV trailer.

Kingdom Hearts IV recently resurfaced with a gameplay trailer at June's Nintendo Direct (see below) and still doesn't have a release window. Neither Disney nor Square Enix has confirmed any of this.
