Leaked pictures of an alleged Tesla Model S prototype hint at possible charging port and taillight upgrades
An apparently unknown Tesla Model S unit has repeatedly been spotted in the vicinity of Fremont, California, where Tesla operates one of its production sites for the North American market. According to Electrek, a member of the Tesla Motors Club forum named "liludiivert" has now leaked some pictures of the alleged prototype, which supposedly could give some hints at the upcoming upgrades to Tesla's flagship sedan.
Since the Model S received a major refresh only six months ago, the changes seen in these pictures are rather minor. Most notably, the charging port of this vehicle appears to be quite a bit larger than the charging ports usually found on Tesla Model S units for the American market. It is more reminiscent of the Tesla Model 3 made for the European market, which supports the bigger plug that is required for the CCS standard.
Additionally, this prototype seems to be equipped with upgraded taillights and the trim above the license plate area also looks different. However, it remains unclear whether these changes will actually make their way to Model S units intended for the North American market, or if the electric car pioneer is testing the upgraded European Tesla Model S variant in the United States.
