Leak: Motorola Edge 70 Max brings more magnets to premium mid-range market

The Motorola Edge 70 Max was recently spotted in high-resolution marketing images. Now, the mid-range smartphone has been spotted undergoing certification with the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). Above all, this certification confirms an exciting detail about the mid-range smartphone: The device supports Qi 2.2.1, including the Magnetic Power Profile.
This means that Motorola is indeed incorporating magnets that, similar to Apple’s MagSafe, allow accessories such as power banks or camera grips to be conveniently connected to the smartphone. Most Android smartphones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S26 series, have so far only been "Qi2 ready," meaning the magnets had to be added via a protective case. Only the HMD Skyline ($399 on Amazon) and the Google Pixel 10 series also feature magnets. The Motorola Edge 70 Max can also be charged wirelessly at up to 25 watts.
The image of the smartphone included in the certification is likely just a placeholder, as it is still dated 2024. As the leaked images have confirmed, the Motorola Edge 70 Max features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, a 50-megapixel main camera with a Sony Lytia sensor, and a rugged, MIL-STD-810H-certified chassis available in green, light blue, or black. Details regarding the launch date are not yet known, but following certification by the WPC, it often takes only a few weeks for a smartphone to launch. The device is likely to be positioned as a premium mid-range smartphone.
