As part of EA's Summer Sale on Steam, the 2023 remake of the survival horror classic Dead Space is now 80% off on the platform, down to its lowest recorded price of $11.99 (€11.99 or £9.99), according to Steamdb.
The 2023 remake faithfully reimagines the original, adding new gameplay segments and story beats while overhauling the visuals and audio with the Frostbite engine. The most notable improvement is to the combat, which is more fluid and responsive.
You also no longer need to buy weapons at kiosks and will find them naturally as you play. What needs to be purchased are the upgrades, and you won't have enough currency to upgrade all weapons in one playthrough.
Gunner Wright, who voiced Isaac in the sequels, returns for the remake. Isaac didn't speak in the original and had no characterization beyond being a stand-in for the player. Those plans changed with the sequels.
Isaac's appearance has also changed to resemble his voice actor. The USG Ishimura is now a completely interconnected map with backtracing and no loading screens.
There are new side quests to complete that often lead to new story beats in the form of audio logs and recordings, which help flesh out what happened on the space station a little more.
The game has a "Very Positive" user rating on Steam, with 91% of more than 40k reviews giving it a thumbs up. You can grab the base game at 80% off, and the digital deluxe edition is also pretty cheap, just $13.99 (€13.99 or £11.99).
