Going Under is a satirical action roguelike that casts players as an unpaid intern exploring the ruins of failed startups. For the first time, the game is available on Steam at a 90% discount, dropping the price to around $2.

Going Under is an action roguelike developed by Aggro Crab and published by Team17 Digital in 2020. In terms of gameplay, it follows genre staples – battling enemies in procedurally generated dungeons, collecting upgrades, facing bosses and starting over upon death. What sets it apart, however, is its sharp satire of modern startup culture. This clever twist on a familiar formula has helped the game resonate with players.

In Going Under, players take on the role of Jacqueline “Jackie” Fiasco, an unpaid intern at the beverage startup Fizzle. While the setting may seem unremarkable at first, it quickly takes a bizarre turn – beneath the office lie the cursed remains of failed startups, now crawling with monstrous former employees. Jackie is tasked with exploring these ruins and retrieving lost relics. Gameplay sticks to familiar roguelike mechanics but introduces a clever twist – weapons break over time. Instead of traditional gear, Jackie fights using everyday office items such as laptops, keyboards, chairs or potted plants. This forces players to adapt on the fly, adding a playful, chaotic energy to each run.

Going Under was well received in a review by nTower, with particular praise for its humor and charming cast of characters. The combat system was described as simple yet satisfying. While the testers found little to criticize, they noted a lack of dungeon variety, as the game features only three main dungeon areas. Overall, the title earned a solid score of 7 out of 10. On Metacritic, Going Under holds a Metascore of 78 and a User Score of 7.3. On Steam, the response is even more enthusiastic, with around 3,900 reviews and a “Very Positive” rating averaging 90%.

90% discount on Steam for the first time

Going Under is normally priced at around $20 and has occasionally been discounted to about $5. Right now, however, it is available on Steam for just $2 thanks to a 90% discount – the lowest price yet, according to SteamDB. The deal runs until December 18 and might be a strong pick for roguelike fans looking for a unique setting. The game is also Steam Deck verified (available for $520 on Amazon), making it a solid choice for handheld players. This offer is part of the Team17 Publisher Sale, which includes discounts on many of the publisher’s other titles.
