The AMD Zen 6 desktop CPUs are expected to come out sometime next year with 50% more cores than the Zen 4 processors. However, this massive increase in core count is reportedly accompanying an even more impressive improvement in core clocks.
Back in March, we reported that the AMD Zen 6 desktop CPUs might reach up to 6 GHz in terms of boost clocks. Moore’s Law Is Dead now provides some additional information related to this alleged development in his latest video (linked at the end).
MLID claims that, after having talked to a bunch of different people at AMD, Team Red is aiming for much more than a 6 GHz boost clock for Zen 6. MLID doesn’t reveal an exact boost frequency figure, because apparently “it’s so insane” that the leaker doesn’t think the viewers will believe him.
However, MLID does reveal that the number is not 6.1 or 6.2 GHz much more. To provide more context regarding this insane Zen 6 clock speed jump over Zen 5, the leaker alleges that Zen 6 is being developed by the same team that had worked on Zen 4 and had managed to a reach 5.7 GHz boost frequency. Coupled with the fact that AMD is using the bleeding edge TSMC N2 node, more specifically N2X, it is in the realm of possibility that AMD could push the clocks on Zen 6 CPUs to 6.5 GHz or more.
That said, these are just targets and targets are not always reached. The Zen 6 desktop CPUs might end up with boost clocks that are much less than MLID’s report. So, until we see official confirmation or some solid evidence, take MLID’s report with a grain of salt.
