Humankind 2 is coming to PC in 2027. Amplitude's sequel brings a changing climate, deeper cultural evolution and 70 playable cultures. Here is what we know so far.

Amplitude Studios has announced Humankind 2, the sequel to its 2021 historical turn-based strategy game, for PC in 2027. The studio revealed it during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25, 2026, and has not shared a more specific release date. The game can already be wishlisted on Steam.

Humankind 2 keeps the core of the first game. Players found cities, develop technologies, forge alliances, command armies, and guide their people from the earliest settlements to the Modern Age, with every era transforming both the civilization and the world around it.

Cultures that build on each other

Cultural evolution has been reworked. With each new era, players adopt a culture that expands and deepens the identity of their civilization, unlocking exclusive customs through cultural progression trees. Amplitude says this delivers more personalization, consistency, and continuity across the ages, and players can follow the historical path or diverge from it.

The October gameplay overview confirmed more than 70 playable cultures, ten more than the original game. Amplitude has named the Saqqaq, the Etruscans, and the Scythians among the new stories.

A climate that changes the map

A changing climate transforms the strategic map across the ages. Players must adapt their cities and economies to shifting biomes, protect vital resources, and weigh short-term growth against consequences that may endure for generations.

What the gameplay overview showed

Amplitude released its first gameplay overview on October 15, 2026, with Game Director Benoit Humbert and Narrative Director Jeff Spock walking through the game. Each match begins with a First Tale, a founding myth that shapes the start of your journey. The video follows the Flood Tamer Tale, tied to Ancient Egypt, as players establish their first settlements and progress through six eras.

A new Historical Mode lets players relive, redefine, or change history on an authentic map of Earth, developed with more than 30 historians. Humbert said the team wants every choice to shape the identity of your civilization.

Visuals and community

Amplitude also promises enhanced visuals, a modernized interface, and gameplay improvements based on years of player feedback. Development will continue alongside the community through the Amplifiers platform, where players can share feedback, earn rewards, and follow progress updates from the team. More details are due in the coming weeks and months.
