Reviews for the Huawei Pura 70 Pro
Source: Speed Magazine
The Huawei Pura 70 Pro shines with its exceptional camera system, good build, a long-lasting battery, and super-fast charging. However, there are compromises. The phone lacks 5G connectivity and getting Google apps requires some effort. Ultimately, if you prioritize camera quality and are comfortable navigating app access, the Pura 70 Pro is a compelling choice. It marks a return to Huawei’s strength in smartphone photography, offering a powerful package at a palatable P59,999 price point.

Both Huawei Pura 70 Pro and 70 Pro Plus are great smartphones and will offer a premium experience to anyone who picks up the phone. Everything from the display to the camera to the battery is absolutely phenomenal and will easily go toe to toe with any other smartphone in the same price range. However, the two new smartphones hide a dark secret in the form of the chipset. While the name of the chipset may indicate a flagship-level performance, it is just not true in reality.

The HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro is a great smartphone that befits its flagship stature. Though it might not be the best of the bunch, I would commend it as the value king of the Pura 70 series. With its retail price of RM4,899, it might be a bit of a tough sell given its shortcomings but if you can live without 5G support nor GMS, and are already within the HUAWEI ecosystem such as with their MateBooks or FreeBuds, it is more than capable of serving you well. You might not get the Ultra’s 1-inch sensor here but keep in mind, that is almost RM2,000 more and this is already an excellent shooter.

The Huawei Pura 70 Pro is an otherwise solid flagship smartphone with excellent camera performance and a brilliant looking display along with superb battery life. If you can live without the inclusion of 5G connectivity and the official lack of Google Mobile services are looking for a sub-RM5,000 flagship outside of the usual brands, this makes for a delightful choice.

I haven’t spent long enough with the Huawei Pura 70 Pro to reach a proper conclusion, but on first impressions, it seems like an excellent phone with lots of great features. Unfortunately, the lack of Google services and an underwhelming processor mean that it’s not going to be considered by most people. The real pull of the Pura 70 series is the camera performance and with the Ultra offering better specifications, I can’t help but feel people will be drawn to that instead. That said, I haven’t properly put this camera to the test yet, it might be just as impressive.

Overall, Huawei did a great job once again with the Pura 70 Pro’s cameras. It may be an iterative update over what we experienced with the P60 Pro, but we will not be surprised if the Pura 70 Pro (or the Pura 70 Ultra) will be considered as one of the best phone cameras for 2024.

Huawei’s P series phones have a solid reputation for being the best flagship camera phones in the market, and the Pura 70 Pro continues with that tradition. Fresh from its unveiling in China, we are very impressed with what the Pura 70 Pro’s cameras are capable of–and even more impressive is that all the photos we took so far are with full auto mode. This shows that Huawei’s XMAGE imaging tech continues to evolve, being able to rival standalone digital cameras and can go head-to-head with a few mirrorless cameras.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.
