The MateBook X Pro 2022 sports a new case with a larger display, an up-to-date Alder Lake processor from Intel and a wide range of features. The end result is very good, but the Intel Evo certified ultrabook also comes with a hefty price tag of around 2,199 Euros (~US$ 2199).

Huawei’s MateBook X Pro is a great flagship laptop that delivers a great performance rivalling other new generation ultra-lightweight laptops. It handles the majority of tasks admirably, with the screen being one of the best I have reviewed.

Until I did the battery test I was all set to call this latest MateBook X one of the best compact laptops money can buy. The display, keyboard, speaker system and performance are all top-notch. It’s a very, very well-made laptop too and in the new white livery, it looks absolutely stunning. But that sub-seven-hour battery life is disappointing, especially when you consider how far it is from the Tiger Lake model we tested earlier in the year. It knocks some of the shine off MateBook X Pro, which is a shame because otherwise, it is an absolute cracker.

And if you want a Huawei notebook with the Super Device feature that lets you use it with other Huawei devices, there are less pricey alternatives like the S$1,798 MateBook 14 or the even more affordable S$1,298 MateBook D16. Perhaps Huawei could have introduced a more affordable version with 512GB of storage instead of 1TB. Or they could have done more to distinguish the MateBook X Pro. Giving it a convertible design like the Yoga 9i would be a good place to start. Is there any reason one should get a MateBook X Pro over a more affordable Huawei notebook or any other less expensive notebook for that matter? Only if you absolutely must have the most portable and premium-looking and feeling ultraportable notebook that Huawei makes. Otherwise, it makes more sense to spend your money elsewhere.

It's safe to say that - on the whole - the updated MateBook X Pro is a refinement of the original 2022 design. But arguably is the laptop that earlier version should have been. The updated magnesium alloy finish gives it a really lovely look and texture, the 14.2-inch display offers vivid but accurate colours and crisp detail, while the speakers elevate the experience. Plus, there's plenty of power here with efficient cooling that it copes with just about any task as long as you don't need something that needs a more powerful dedicated graphics processing unit. There's no denying it's an expensive machine, but given the improvements it seems - at least - that it's more worthy of that price tag than its predecessor was.

If you want a lightweight laptop for work that runs well and looks good then the Huawei Matebook X Pro (2022) is a premium option to impress. Granted the battery life leaves a lot to be desired but that's its only significant downfall.

The MateBook X Pro’s second 2022 revision doesn’t change much, but a jump to 12th-gen Intel chips and a lighter magnesium alloy build are enough to make a great laptop even better. It’s not quite perfect – we still miss the proper USB port, and rivals have better battery – but it’s pretty darn close.

There are some excellent premium 14-inch ultraportable laptops on the market at the moment, including Apple's M1 Pro-based MacBook Pro (from £1,899/$1,999) and Lenovo's 10th-generation ThinkPad X1 Carbon (from £2,230/$1,397). However, Huawei's thin, light and elegant MateBook X Pro (2022) can hold its own with the best of them. It carries a premium price tag (£1,799), but in our opinion is worth the money -- especially with a 28-inch monitor thrown in for free. Unfortunately for buyers across the pond, the MateBook X Pro (2022) is not officially available in the US. The 2022 MateBook X Pro performs well with mainstream workloads, although the lack of discrete graphics hampers it in the gaming stakes. Its 14.2-inch screen is bright, with good colour gamut coverage and accuracy, even if it's not an OLED panel, while the audio subsystem is as good as they come. The only disappointments are 720p rather than 1080p webcam resolution, the lack of an SD card slot and moderate battery life.

The bottom line is… the Huawei MateBook X Pro 2022 is a truly excellent laptop. It is extremely pricey, though, a lot more expensive than its predecessor. So, from that point of view, it may be best for you to get last year’s model, as you’ll save a ton of cash (depending on the variant). However, if you’re looking to get the latest and greatest, we really don’t have any major complaints about this laptop. Huawei did an amazing job with the MateBook X Pro 2022. It pulled all the stops and created a great-looking, and great-feeling laptop that can handle a lot. The sound output is sublime, the screen is truly excellent, and the keyboard is a joy to type on. Even the touchpad is excellent. If you have the cash, and you want the best, get the Huawei MateBook X Pro 2022, it’s certainly one of the best offerings in this price range.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro is the laptop that convinced me that a professional designer/photographer/videographer’s MacBook alternative exists. It’s the perfect powerful work machine in a super compact form factor, with a stunning screen and extraordinary shell and software capabilities. It was not without minor shortcomings – limited ports and not the greatest autonomy, but these are rather common problems of the entire class of similar devices, and not specifically of this ultrabook. In fact, only two things can keep you from buying – a high (but more than justified) price and the fact that you simply do not need such powerful equipment. But who would turn down a Ferrari even if they weren’t racing?

The Huawei MateBook X Pro (2022, 12th-gen) is a great laptop; it offers improvements over its predecessor, including higher levels of brightness, better accuracy for colour-sensitive work, and a 12th-Gen Intel processor. I’m a fan of the sturdy build, and the haptic feedback touchpad. The MateBook X Pro is the ideal laptop for hybrid workers who are looking for a lightweight and portable device that can be used from home or the office. However, with a disappointing battery life and a super-high price, it’s likely to have limited appeal. If you want a speedy work laptop, then this is a great choice. But you can find a similar performance on more reasonably priced devices such as Dell XPS 13 OLED and MacBook Air M2.

All in all, I think the Huawei MateBook X Pro has a lot to offer, and while it is a bit pricy, it’s not overly expensive for what you get. Again, the £1,799 price tag includes a fairly expensive monitor in the package, so this isn’t as expensive as it initially appears. For what you pay, you get a phenomenal display, great sound, premium build quality, and a good typing experience. You can’t ask for a lot more. Except, maybe, for it to be available in the United States. My biggest issues with the Huawei MateBook X Pro have to do with the built-in webcam and microphone setup, plus the lack of legacy ports is unfortunate. I also didn’t love some aspects of the touchpad, but you might be able to get used to how it works. As for the Huawei MateView SE, I’d say this is a nice monitor for the price. I find the lack of speakers a bit unfortunate because I would also like to hook up my Nintendo Switch to it, but if you’re only using a laptop, it probably already has better speakers than any monitor in this price range.

I absolutely would recommend the X Pro 12th Gen as a daily portable with plenty of horsepower. If you’re not looking for a hardcore gaming laptop, or one for super-intensive design work, then you’re well onto a winner. It might carry a premium price tag, but you’re getting a premium home office laptop here, which is ideal for dealing with productivity tasks like child's play.

It's safe to say that - on the whole - the updated MateBook X Pro is a refinement of the original 2022 design. But arguably is the laptop that earlier version should have been. The updated magnesium alloy finish gives it a really lovely look and texture, the 14.2-inch display promises vivid but accurate colours, and there's plenty of power here with efficient cooling that it should cope with just about any task. There's no denying it's an expensive machine, but given the improvements it seems - at least - that it's more worthy of that price tag than its predecessor was.

We really enjoyed our time with the new Huawei MateBook X Pro. Assuming it doesn’t somehow fall apart during our testing process - which we would be surprised to see - we’ll feel very comfortable recommending it to anyone looking for a lightweight new laptop. At this point, our main criticism is the relative lack of physical port options. There’s four ports in total (not including the headphone jack), all four of which are USB-C; No USB-A, no SD card reader, and no video output in sight. This is likely due to the ultra-thin form factor, but it’s still annoying that it necessitates the purchase of a USB hub when it’s already going to be quite pricey.

We already knew the latest Matebook X Pro was a slick-looking ultraportable with a stellar screen – and that hasn’t changed now Huawei has upgraded the internals. It’s still a great work machine, thanks to the tactile keyboard, responsive touchpad and 3:2 aspect ratio. The high resolution, HDR support and decent set of speakers mean it can entertain as well. The extra CPU cores have given performance a welcome boost, meaning it can crunch numbers on par with many chunkier machines. A few new colour options help the updated machine stand out from its more businesslike rivals, and by the time you configure an M2-powered MacBook Air with same RAM and storage the price gap is pretty minimal. Battery life remains a sore spot, though, and creative types will still need to look elsewhere for a machine with a dedicated GPU. But if you’re simply after a premium work machine with a splash of style, it absolutely gets the job done.

The new MateBook X Pro comes in the familiar 2022 design but can offer a bit more computing power with a new Intel Core i7-1360P. The well-known and good case, including a large display with many features, is a great companion. We will clarify the strengths and weaknesses of the MateBook X Pro 2023 in this review.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro (2023) hasn’t deviated too far from its predecessors, but does boast a 13th-Gen Intel i7 chipset, allowing it to breeze through productivity tasks. But with such a high price and limited graphical capabilities, you may be better off investing in a cheaper alternative.

Reviewing the Huawei Matebook X Pro 2023, one of the best ultraportable laptops with smooth 13th Gen Intel performance and a glorious 3K display. The Huawei Matebook X Pro 2023 is an iterative update, so don't expect many upgrades vs the 2022 model if you already own that notebook. But newcomers will love this skinny, lightweight laptop, from creators doing photo and light video editing to mobile workers. Battery life is improved over last year's Matebook X Pro, but it's still the weak point here - you won't quite stretch to six hours of play, even if you're doing basic office tasks. Still, Huawei's ultraportable laptop is incredibly portable, and ideal for keeping you entertained on the go.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2023 is a sleek and stylish laptop that has a gorgeous display and excellent track pad, but perhaps a bit overpriced. The MateBook X Pro 2023 has a 14.2-inch 90Hz LCD display with touchscreen support.

With its upgrades being entirely under the hood, this year’s Matebook X Pro is a modest refresh over the previous generation. But that’s no bad thing, given it was already a very capable ultraportable. The keyboard and touchpad are as slick as ever, the 3:2 aspect ratio touchscreen is work-friendly as well as pixel-packed. HDR support and some decent stereo speakers are great for slacking off, too. The 13th-gen Intel CPU only brings a minor performance boost, and dedicated GPUs remain off the table, so creatives and pros will still want to keep the Dell XPS 15 in mind. Battery life hasn’t really improved either, so sn M2-powered MacBook Air remains the best choice for all-day working away from the mains. We’re still fans of the Matebook’s styling, though, and can’t deny you’re getting a lot of machine for your money.

The MateBook X Pro is another excellent high-end laptop from Huawei, albeit essentially unchanged from the late 2022 model other than a bump up to the latest Intel chip. That brings with it a modest performance improvement, but no real gains to battery life, which remains the hardware’s main weak point. If you can live with keeping your charger close at hand and don’t mind paying a premium for plenty of storage then this is as premium as lightweight laptops get, a slick device that looks as good as anything out there and packs the performance to match.

So let’s get the obvious out of the way. The Huawei MateBook X Pro is still Dell’s worst nightmare — a true XPS killer. Not only that, but it manages to beat the MacBook Air in plenty of areas to be a fantastic ultraportable. There are some small niggles that continue to exist, such as the weaker webcam picture and that price tag. Plus a new problem seems to arise too, as the upgrade to the 13th Gen processor seems to add a little more strain on the thermal management last year. But for all intents and purposes, this still continues to be one of my favorite laptops in a long, long time.
