An eighth cup is available in Mario Kart World, and if you don't know how to unlock it, here are all the details.

While Nintendo Switch 2 fans had the opportunity to try Mario Kart World at the console's launch, some noticed that only seven grand prizes are available. But in reality, there's an eighth that must be unlocked in a very specific way.

Since the release of Mario Kart DS in 2005, every new opus has featured eight grand prizes, each corresponding to four races. However, the most assiduous will have noticed that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, released on the Nintendo Switch, stood out by offering 12 grand prizes, four of which came from a Wii U DLC.

However, in this new opus released yesterday on the Nintendo Switch 2, seven grand prizes are offered to players:

  • Mushroom Cup
  • Flower Cup
  • Star Cup
  • Shell Cup
  • Banana Cup
  • Leaf Cup
  • Lightning Cup

But when you finish the last grand prix, an animation appears on your screen. It's one that most fans recognize, because it's the Rainbow Road, with a new feature. It's accessible in the open world, allowing you to roam freely in this colorful, futuristic space.

As a result, it's at this very moment that a new cup becomes available, bearing the mysterious name of “Special Cup”. And when you get down to the nitty-gritty, you'll have access to four circuits: the Acorn Heights, the Mario Circuit, the Peach Stadium and the Rainbow Road.

So, with this hidden cup, Mario Kart World remains in line with previous opuses, with the exception of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, even if the unlocking system for this championship is unprecedented in the history of the franchise. As a result, it's conceivable that the developers will be adding a DLC with four grand prix in the not-too-distant future, as well as the 200cc mode, which is currently unavailable. And to emphasize this point, the open world offers a wide range of options and novelties likely to appeal to all players.
