It was only a matter of time before HTC scaled down its flagship HTC 10 into a more affordable package for the masses. Originally meant for emerging markets, the new HTC Lifestyle will have more mainstream specifications including a Snapdragon 652 SoC with 3 GB RAM instead of the Snapdragon 820 and 4 GB RAM as found on its higher-end sibling. Other core specifications such as its 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 display, 12 MP rear camera w/ OIS, and 3000 mAh remain identical to the HTC 10. Thus, the HTC 10 Lifestyle should cater well to users who would be satisfied with less computing power.
Certain retailers in Europe are already listing the Lifestyle as available, but its starting price of 680 Euros is only about 40 Euros less than the HTC 10. Retail prices will likely fall quickly over time should the price point prove unpopular.
The HTC 10 has been praised by press despite its mediocre sales. Nonetheless, certain aspects have been criticized including its tendency to throttle when under load and its high power consumption even when on standby mode. Fortunately, the Snapdragon 652 should run cooler and alleviate the above issues. The HTC 10 is currently the only major consumer smartphone available with OIS on both its front and rear cameras.
