Despite its Surface-Like appearance, the new HP Dragonfly Folio G3 does not come with a detachable keyboard. However, this convertible offers premium features such as powerful Intel Alder Lake vPro processors, 2x Thunderbolt 4 connectors, an 8 MP webcam and a 3000 x 2000 OLED display option.

HP is launching the Dragonfly Folio G3 as an MS Surface-like device integrating a pull-forward design with an undetachable keyboard and a polyurethane cover that confers a premium business feel. It also includes a Dragonfly Folio Pen that can attach to the right side of the keyboard and fully recharge wirelessly in only 30 minutes.

The tablet side features a 3:2 13.5-inch display with three panel options: two IPS LCD variants with 1920 x 1280 and 3000 x 2000 resolutions, respectively, plus a premium OLED panel with 3000 x 2000 resolution. Based on internal testing, HP determined that the 53.2 Wh battery may last up to 7 hours on the OLED version, while on the IPS LCD variants it could last up to 13.5 hours.

Since the keyboard cannot be detached, the Dragonfly Folio G3 is not particularly light for a convertible tablet at 3.1 lbs. Nevertheless, the sturdier keyboard side allows for the inclusion of more powerful components such as a 12th gen Intel Core i5 or i7 vPro processors complemented by up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM (soldered) and up to 2 TB NVMe storage upgradeable via an M.2 card. The keyboard chassis is made of 90% recycled magnesium, with some specific components incorporating plastic cleaned from oceans.

Port selection is slim, but it does come with 2x Thunderbolt 4 connectors and a headphone jack. Users can connect an external display and utilize the touchscreen as a graphics tablet via the HP Indirect Inking feature. Connectivity is ensured through a Wi-Fi 6E + BT 5.2 card, and HP offers options to add 4G LTE and 5G SIM support.

This device is specifically built to deliver an outstanding virtual conference experience with the addition of an 8 MP webcam that has 100-degree FOV plus a dual-mic array with Dynamic Voice Leveling and Bang & Olufsen quad speakers. Security features include a button that disables the webcam, an IR sensor for secure login, as well as the HP Sure View screen blurring technology that reduces visibility from specific angles.

Prices start at US$2379 but there are no details on the exact base configuration. The HP site does not seem to be selling the device as of yet, even though the press release mentions it is available now.
