In conclusion, the number of features and the build quality you get for price of the dv6t Select Quad Edition is a bargain. The dv6tse is a great option for many people looking for a laptop that can be portable when necessary but for the most part would serve well as a home bound machine that offers great multimedia capabilities and above average performance with common computing tasks.

If you're looking for a desktop replacement laptop that uses the latest Intel technology to deliver strong productivity performance, the HP Pavilion dv6-6033cl will fit the bill. Its durable finish and ample storage are nice features, as are the speedy USB 3.0 ports and two-year warranty. Still, its graphics engine has limited potential, and it comes up short in terms of features and battery life. And while the dv6-6033cl is a good performer, the Dell Inspiron 15R-2728MRB offers similar productivity performance and more features for less money (the dv6-6033cl gives you slightly better multimedia and graphics performance, though). The Acer Aspire AS5742-6811 also offers competitive performance and much better battery life for around $150 less. For the best all around performance and feature set in a 15-inch desktop replacement laptop, the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Thunderbolt) is still our reigning Editors' Choice.

Our Editors' Choice in the budget laptop category, the HP Pavilion dv6-3225dx, will give you a smidgen more in terms of looks and features, and it costs the same as this HP Pavilion dv6-3225dx. So if we have to give the dv6-3225dx a tiny edge in the value department, the dv6-3225dx still offers quite a bit for under $650, making it a strong contender at Best Buy.

HP's Pavilion dv6-6091nr gives their Envy series a run in the performance department but at a more affordable price. For just $999, it comes with a new Intel quad core processor, 6GB memory and a whopping terabyte of storage space. It even features an AMD graphics processor for gaming on the side.

I have to say the new HP Pavilion DV6 is one hell of a laptop in terms of performance. I haven’t seen anything with this much power in such a relatively mid-sized frame; most definitely not a this price point. The build quality of the DV6 is above average, but nothing high-end like dedicated gaming machines. Then again, the DV6 isn’t designed to be a gaming machine, but rather and all round notebook that can easily replace your desktop with stellar performance and portability. Without a doubt, if you’re in the market for a 15” notebook, the new HP Pavilion DV6 provides a compelling package that’s too good to miss at this price.

The HP Pavilion dv6-3122sa is designed to be an all-rounder, equally capable of working and playing. Unlike most laptops that we see, it uses an AMD processor, rather than an Intel one. Not for Sale? Currently, no shop in Germany is selling the new HP Pavilion dv6 in our test configuration, although both its price and hardware seem very interesting. The HD 6770M graphic chip of the notebook promises gaming power. In addition, the quad-core CPU and 8 GB RAM should deliver great performance. Still, is it worth the wait?

With a blend of strong performance and premium features, the HP Pavilion dv6t Select Edition gives you horsepower for both productivity and play, thanks to an Intel Core i5 processor and AMD discrete GPU. High-end features like Wireless Display technology and Beats Audio are just icing on the cake. You may find that the Editors' Choice Dell XPS 15z gives you better performance and longer battery life, but the dv6t-SE is still a compelling package.

Overall, the HP Pavilion dv6 offers a pleasing package at $800, with a plethora of ports, an excellent keyboard, and a decent display. If you're willing to pay for more options, the package scales up, with features such as a full 1080p panel, Blu-ray, and a higher-end Radeon HD 6770M discrete GPU, but those add-ons will ramp up the price of the system quickly. At $800, this configuration of the dv6 seems to hit a sweet spot.

Big midrange laptops are like standard-size cars: most of the time, they're just not going to be very exciting. The HP Pavilion dv6t is a solid improvement on HP's previous 15-inch mainstream consumer laptop with numerous tweaks, bells, and whistles, but the wide variety of options means you'll get wildly different systems based on what you can afford.

Consumers looking for a stylish and affordable multimedia laptop with strong performance, convenient fingerprint security, and impressive sound should snatch up the $769 HP Pavilion dv6t. The second-generation Intel Core i5-2410M CPU provides more than enough power to stream HD movies while uploading images or editing video, while the inclusion of switchable graphics gives the dv6t enough oomph for playing the latest games. For $30 more, the Dell XPS 15 offers better sound and Nvidia GeForce GT525M graphics. However, we give the edge to the Pavilion dv6t because of its sleeker design. It's a great all-around entertainment notebook at a price that's right.

HP has put together a capable, well-designed laptop in the dv6. It's fast and efficient, with a reasonable battery life and a large, clear display. Clearly designed for the home user on a budget, you're going to get a lot more bang for your buck than you'd expect, as HP is building on the work done in the high end Envy series and the styling is really a cut above most laptops and the chassis is sturdy without being bulky. Sadly the Beats Audio is let down by the integrated speakers, but as long as you keep the volume down you shouldn’t be affected. The Core i5 processor may not be Intel's most powerful, but it's more than capable and should support most common needs, from gaming to editing video. Just uninstall the bundled software before you start using it in anger.

In terms of raw processing power, it's a bit of a disappointment, though you'll only see it if you push your processor hard with multimedia tasks or serious multitasking. On the other hand, the graphics it offers provide the same gaming capability as a more expensive laptop with a discrete GPU. Systems like the Editors' Choice Dell XPS 15z cost nearly $300 more, and those savings certainly make the HP Pavilion dv6-6145dx worth considering.

With its striking design, well-rounded feature set, strong performance, and two-year warranty, the HP Pavilion dv6-6173cl is a tough act to beat for less than $1,000. Sure, we would have liked to see a backlit keyboard, better mouse buttons, Bluetooth, and perhaps even a Blu-ray drive, but those are minor quibbles. As it stands, the Pavilion dv6-6173cl delivers great value as a do-it-all entertainment laptop for the home.

Because it makes so few sacrifices as a sub-$1,000 do-it-all media center laptop, the HP Pavilion dv7-6163cl earns itself the Editors' Choice award. It made some small strides by upgrading the CPU and lowering the price by $50. If you are looking for an affordable quad-core desktop replacement that delivers strong application and 3D performance, long battery life, and booming audio inside a stylish and sturdy enclosure, look no further than the HP Pavilion dv7-6163cl, our new Editors' Choice for media center laptops.

Though it costs a bit more than competing models, it's hard to argue against the HP Pavilion dv6-6163cl. Other than the clacky mouse buttons, we have no quibbles about the design, which is both tough and sleek thanks to its use of aluminum. Features we would have liked to see included are Bluetooth and dedicated graphics, though it's rare to find an $800 laptop with dedicated graphics. As configured, it delivers very competitive application performance for the price.

HP continues their trend of offering a more affordable performance computer with the Pavilion dv6 compared to their Envy 14. In fact, the quad core processor and 8GB of memory give it better general performance and the trackpad with dedicated buttons is very welcome. The downside is that the laptop doesn't offer the same level of polish or storage capabilities.

The only thing that lets this AMD dv6 down is its all-but-casual gaming performance, although to be fair it’s not been designed for anything more demanding in this sphere. More to the point, the HP Pavilion dv6-6b06sa is a good all-rounder for home use for those on a fairly tight budget. It has enough power to do the everyday jobs and comes with huge storage capacity or it would do once you’ve stripped out the HP bloatware.

The Pavilion dv6-6116tx will cost you Rs.38,897, which is not too bad for a mainstream multimedia notebook. Granted, it’s a bit underpowered, compared to the competition at the same price point, but then not many notebooks in this price bracket are built as well as the HP. If you aren’t going to be playing too many games or intensive 3D applications, then you won’t be disappointed with the dv6. Mind you, you’ll have to sacrifice USB 3.0 as well. On the other hand, if all you care about is performance then you can’t go wrong with the Acer TimelineX 5830TG. In the next refresh, HP should bump up the specs a bit for the same price, which would then make the 6116tx an excellent buy.

The HP Pavilion dv6 is a well-rounded and versatile mid-range laptop that looks good, performs well and is, for the most part, enjoyable to use. A basic 1,366x768 display resolution limits the laptop's potential as a productivity tool, but the large bright display, full-size keyboard and ultra-responsive trackpad make it convenient for everyday home use.

Worst of all, though, is the battery life, with the laptop lasting only 1hr 33mins of typical classroom use, including video playback and web browsing. HP has just announced an update to the range – the dv7 – so let’s hope this addresses the problem.

The Pavilion dv6-7030tx is a fast Ivy Bridge-based notebook that also has an excellent, Full HD screen. It's well suited for home users who want a good computer not only to get stuff done, but also to get fun stuff done. We just wish it had a better Wi-Fi card in it, and there are certain aspects of the design that we'd change, too, such as the cover on the Ethernet port. All up, though, a good unit.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.
In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel HD Graphics 3000: Integrated graphics card in the Intel Sandy Bridge processors (Core ix-2xxx). The HD 3000 is the faster (internally GT2 called) version with 12 Execution Units (EUs).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470: Entry level DirectX 11 chip with GDDR5 support but only 80 shader cores. Supports Eyefinity (up to 4 monitors) and 8-ch HD audio over HDMI. Performance on par with the old GeForce 8600M GT.
AMD Radeon HD 6520G:
Integrated processor graphics card (in the A6-Series of Llano APUs) without dedicated graphics memory and only 320 of the 400 shader cores.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Radeon HD 6570M: Renamed Mobility Radeon HD 5700 series card with (optional?) GDDR5 support like the HD 5750.
AMD Radeon HD 6770M:
Fastest card of the 6600M/6700M series with GDDR5 memory, UVD3 and Eyefinity+ support. Is the immediate successor to the HD 5770 with more cores and higher clock rates
AMD Radeon HD 6755G2:
Dual Graphics (asymmetrical CrossFire) combination of a dedicated Radeon HD 6750M and a 6620G or 6520G APU graphics card (e.g., found in the AMD 3500M CPU).
NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M:
Multiple models based on various chips of the Fermi generation. Specifically, the GT 630M exists in GF108/GF106/GF116 variants, but are all essentially renamed GeForce GT 540M or 555M GPUs. A 28nm GF117 variant exists as well with reduced power consumption.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M: A mid-range GPU and the fastest GeForce GT as part of the 600M series
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
AMD Radeon HD 6650M: Successor of the Mobility Radeon HD 5650 with more cores, UVD3 processor and Eyefinity+. Due to the same codename, the 6650M should be a HD 6750M with slow DDR3 memory.
AMD Radeon HD 6490M: Entry to middle class graphics card based on the Seymore XT codename with support for fast GDDR5. The chip can be clocked at 700-750 with GDDR5 and 800 with slow DDR3.
AMD Radeon HD 6550M: Renamed Mobility Radeon HD 5650.
AMD Radeon HD 6620G: Integrated processor graphics card (in the A-Series of Llano APUs) without dedicated graphics memory.
AMD Radeon HD 6545G2: Dual Graphics (asymmetrical CrossFire) combination of a dedicated Radeon HD 6490M and a 6520G APU graphics card (e.g. found in the AMD A6-3400M CPU).
AMD Radeon HD 7470M: Based on the old Seymore XT chip and therefore a renamed version of the Radeon HD 6490M (perhaps with slightly changed clock rates).

Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.6-2.9 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
480M: The Core i5-480M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-620M) and clocks between 2.66-2.9 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
2430M: Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.4 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.7-3 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
2450M: Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.5 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.8-3.1 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1300 MHz Turbo).
Intel Core i3:
350M:
The Core i3-350M is technically a Core i5-430M without the Turbo Boost overlocking feature. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.26 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
2310M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.1 GHz and features the Turbo Boost 2.0 only for the graphics card (650/1100MHz).
2330M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.2 GHz and features the Turbo Boost 2.0 only for the graphics card (650/1100MHz).
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

3610QM:
An Ivy Bridge-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.3 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4000 GPU running at 650-1100 MHz on a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.
