Elegant powerhouse. The HP Elitebook 8560p-LQ589AW really stands out with its new and high-end platinum-style aluminium case. And then there’s the hardware: a second generation Core i5 processor, HD graphics from AMD and a large 15.6-inch matt display. The HP notebook costs around €1200 in this configuration. A real steal, given the current price of precious metal?

HP put a lot of thought in designing the EliteBook 8560p, not just on the hardware, but the software side too. It isn't cluttered with junkware, but it's equipped with useful utilities, like HP ProtectTools, a series of technologies that help ensure your secret data stays that way. HP also made it easy to wrangle all these tools, as well as the power options and connectivity sources, through straightforward menus.

80% HP EliteBook 8560p: The Cadillac of Laptops
Source: Bright Hub English Archive.org version
The EliteBook 8560p is an exceptionally well constructed laptop. There are many aspects of its design that are worthy of praise, from the rigid chassis to the large touchpad. Few laptops on the market today offer the combination of features here, and most consumers would find this to be a great desktop replacement laptop.

There's no denying the blazingly fast productivity performance or rugged construction of this notebook, but for this price tag we really expected more out of the visual experience. With a lacklustre display (upgradable to 1080p for a cost) and low-end GPU (not upgradable at all), the 8560p faces stiff competition in this price range for those who value a pretty picture along with superb performance.

Staying on top of business demands means more than putting in the newest and fastest parts; in addition to its cutting edge components, the HP EliteBook 8560p is a complete redesign, from the all-aluminum chassis to the glass touchpad. It's a trendy-looking, powerful business laptop that could stand to improve its battery life. That's why there's a 14-inch version and business laptops, like the Dell Latitude E6420.

My biggest complaints may or may not be a concern for most potential EliteBook buyers. The optional AMD Radeon 6470M graphics is good, but not particularly remarkable when you consider the $1,499 price tag. Given that this is an EliteBook it's reasonable for customers to assume this notebook offers extremely high-end graphics/video performance and we're just not seeing it here. Likewise, the lack of a 1080p screen option is a bit disappointing when competitors are offing full HD screens on their 15-inch notebooks. I was also sad that HP didn't give the 8560p a backlit keyboard or a three-button touchpad. Again, if none of those quibbles stand out as major problems to you then the new EliteBook 8560p might be the best business notebook for your needs.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.

In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.

Intel Core i5:

2540M: Fast Dual-core processor clocked from 2.6 to 3.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.0) based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

2620M: Very fast Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.

76.25%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
