Reviews for the HP EliteBook 8460p
Boxy Business Notebook. A vivid, high-quality display? The Elitebooks constitute the best that HP has to offer in terms of business laptops. Can the 2011 series maintain this good reputation or even improve it?

The HP EliteBook 8460p is one of the best laptops on the market. Whether it's worth the high asking price is another story. It's very fast, it's very well built, it's comfortable to use and it has good security features. However, it's also heavy, it could use a backlit keyboard and we wish it didn't take so long to set up initially. Nevertheless, if you can convince your purse handlers in your company that it's a good purchase, then we think you'll be very happy with it.

Overall, the HP EliteBook 8460p offers decent performance, a good display, and a great keyboard in an unassuming exterior design. The price for preconfigured models is reasonable, given some of the system management features built into the EliteBook. So if you're looking for a fairly light business-class all-purpose laptop that gets the job done without being flashy, the 8460p deserves closer inspection. Just remember to bring your own headphones.

The title of the article really says it all. While we're a little underwhelmed with the AMD Radeon HD 6470M beating at the heart of the HP EliteBook 8460p, the notebook is largely aces. HP's massive overhaul of their professional lines has yielded incredible dividends. The notebooks all offer tremendous connectivity and flexibility along with a sense of style that we could stand to see adopted by consumer-grade notebooks from vendors other than Apple.

HP has created an excellent business partner in the EliteBook 8460p. The redesign is sleek and durable, it performs well, and lasts a long time on a charge. We also like the above-average sound quality, comfy keyboard, and smooth and accurate glass touchpad, as well as the helpful security tools. Our only reservations about this $1,199 notebook are that it's slightly heavy and bulky for a 14-inch machine and that the pointing stick isn't as good as what the competition offers. Overall, though, the EliteBook 8460p is a compelling business laptop.

AMD Radeon HD 6470M: Entry to middle class graphics card based on the Seymore XT codename featuring the UVD3 video processor.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
