Without any fanfare, Google Play Movies has started to offer US$0.99 movie rentals, down from a previous US$5.99. However, this deal does not apply to B-rated movies as one would expect. The list of US$0.99 Google Play Movie rentals includes blockbusters like "A Star Is Born," "Bohemian Rhapsody," and more.
Codrut Nistor,

Google Play Movies might still have a coverage issue, but those who can use this service can definitely enjoy a few good deals. The latest move involves offering US$0.99 movie rentals, a change that came overnight and was not advertised at all. The best part about it is that Google Play Movies users can now enjoy many recent blockbusters as part of this deal, and not older and B-rated titles as one would expect for such a low price.

An official announcement might come — or not — but the list of movies that can be rented for less than a US Dollar surely looks tempting. This list includes Oscar-winning "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "A Star Is Born," as well as "Ralph Breaks the Internet" and others. The catch with rentals is that they expire in 30 days after purchase and 48 hours after playing the movie for the first time, not to mention the fact that the extras — where available — are only available for purchases.

In addition to the above, there is a final catch: this deal is limited to just one rental per user/Google account and only US customers can enjoy it. Credits or other offers cannot be used with this deal. In the end, even a single US$0.99 movie rental deal is better than nothing. Hopefully, the next time we hear about Google Play Movies the news will involve the introduction of this service in some new markets as well.

Although I have been writing about new software and hardware for almost a decade, I consider myself to be old school. I always enjoy listening to music on CD or tape instead of digital files and I will not even get into the touchscreen vs physical keys debate. However, I also enjoy new technology, as I now have the chance to take a look at the future every day. I joined the Notebookcheck crew back in 2013 and I have no plans to leave the ship anytime soon.
