Google Pixel 6a launch date emerges for spring 2022
It seems that Google could be gearing to release two devices at Google I/O 2022, not just the Pixel Watch. According to Max Jambor, Google has scheduled a May release date for the Pixel 6a, the same month in which the Pixel 3a series launched. Incidentally, Google had hoped to release the Pixel 4a in May too, but it was forced to delay the handset until August.
Reputedly, Google will announce the Pixel Watch on May 26, a seemingly likely date for the next Google I/O conference. Since Google is tipped to unveil the Pixel 6a and the Pixel Watch during the same month, we would not be surprised if the devices arrived simultaneously.
Google is expected to equip the Pixel 6a with the Google Tensor, an SoC that it unveiled last year in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The mid-range smartphone is also thought to feature the Pixel 6 series' design language, rather than retaining the one Google used across the Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 series.
Hence, the Pixel 6a will have a wide rear camera housing, albeit one that will only protect two lenses and an LED flash. Purportedly, Google has chosen the Sony IMX355, IMX363 and IMX386 for the Pixel 6a, a blend of cameras from the Pixel 5 and the Pixel 6 series. The Pixel 6a will only share its ultra-wide-angle camera with the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro, though.
