Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro receive new camera feature from their cheaper sibling
Google has brought the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro up to feature parity with the Pixel 6a, its new mid-range smartphone that it started shipping last week. At Google I/O 2022, Google showcased a new Magic Eraser feature, functionality that was exclusive to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro before the Pixel 6a arrived. While Google did not provide much information, Mishaal Rahman later highlighted Magic Eraser's Camouflage feature on Twitter.
As Google has now explained, Camouflage allows you to change the brightness and colour of an object. Theoretically, the feature makes it easier to make a background object less distracting. In Google's example, it changes the colour a cooler from #87B846 to #D6BFA5, a light orange shade that blends better with sand. For reference, Magic Eraser still allows you to remove unwanted objects from an image.
It is worth noting that it seems that the Google Camera app automatically changes the colour of a camouflaged object, rather than allowing you to re-colour it. Based on Rahman's video, Google only allows people to decide which objects to camouflage, which you can do by circling them within the Edit sub-menu of the Google Camera app. The new Camouflage feature should be available on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro now without neednig to update either device's firmware.
