In Blasphemous 2, players once again don the armor of the Penitent One, who awakens in a strange land after the events of the first game. There, the "Miracle" has returned – a divine force that cruelly grants wishes and traps the world in an endless cycle of suffering. Your goal is to uncover the source of this torment and put an end to it once and for all. The journey leads you through a dark, mythic world filled with haunting landscapes and cryptic NPCs, all steeped in the series' signature melancholic tone.
At its core, Blasphemous 2 is a classic Metroidvania, offering non-linear exploration and demanding platforming sections. Its Soulslike combat relies on learning enemy patterns and mastering precise timing – but with a twist: the entire game is presented in a traditional 2D sidescrolling view. Players can choose between three distinct weapons – parrying blades, a heavy mace and a versatile sword – which not only define combat style but also play a key role in solving environmental puzzles.
In its German review, PC Games awarded Blasphemous 2 an impressive 9 out of 10. The smooth controls, varied level design and refined combat system received particular praise. The presentation also stood out: hand-drawn pixel animations are paired with a haunting soundtrack, and the voice acting is even available in Latin for added immersion. Minor drawbacks included occasional visual glitches, somewhat predictable enemy AI and a limited variety of enemy types.
Blasphemous 2 has also received strong international reviews. On Metacritic, it holds a Metascore of 84 and a User Score of 8.3. The response on Steam is even more enthusiastic – 90% of more than 16,000 user reviews are positive.

Blasphemous 2 was developed by the Spanish studio The Game Kitchen and released in August 2023 by publisher Team17. Normally priced at around $30 on Steam, the Metroidvania is currently 67% off and available for about $9.90 until December 18. According to SteamDB, this is the first time the game has dropped below the $10 mark. It's also rated "Verified" for the Steam Deck (available on Amazon for $440), meaning it runs smoothly without any issues.
