While Garena is best known for Free Fire, a battle royale game that's a competitor to PUBG Mobile, the Singaporean developer has introduced a bunch of other games. One of the new additions is called Free City, which combines elements from Rockstar's GTA Online and GTA 5.
The game has just made its soft launch and has been listed on Google Play Store. However, Garena Free City is currently exclusive to users in Argentina, and the early gameplay videos that have emerged show gameplay mechanics and controls similar to mobile games like the titles within the Gangstar series from Gameloft.
Garena initially teased the game in August of this year, describing it as an "incredible adventure" title that allows mobile gamers to engage in different activities. That includes exploring a decently sized map, planning multi-stage heists, participating in PvE and PvP multiplayer fights, purchasing properties, and more. All of these make Free City sound a lot like GTA Online.
Of course, unlike GTA Online, Garena Free City aims to offer a depth of narrative with stealth and assassination missions. There are undercover operations as well, which makes the game feel more structured, like Grand Theft Auto 5. The Play Store description also suggests that it has in-depth car and player customizations.
There's no word on when Free City will be available in other regions, but the chances of it making a proper global debut are high. After all, Garena doesn't have many region-locked games in its portfolio. Check out the video attached below to learn more about the game.
