EeWrite E-Pad will be an Android tablet based entirely off of E-Ink technology

Android tablets may be perfect for catching up on YouTube videos and playing Play Store games, but they are rather poor for reading books due to glare and eyestrain from the display backlight. Tablets with E Ink have been available for years to directly remedy this, but E Ink tablets don't normally have access to the same suite of applications or features as a typical Android tablet. EeWrite wants to bring the best of both worlds with its upcoming E Ink-based Android tablet.

Called the E-Pad, the tablet will feature a 10.3-inch E Ink Carta screen running on an Android OS for full access to the Google Play Store. It will even feature a SIM slot for 4G connectivity and a WACOM stylus for pressure-sensitive touchscreen control. The developers are claiming a battery life between one week to an entire month since there is no LCD display or backlight to power.

EeWrite will launch the project on Kickstarter on March 26 with presumably more details to come. We're eager to see how an Android tablet based entirely off of E Ink technology can run everyday Play Store applications and games. The recently released Lenovo Yoga Book C930 utilizes a similar E Ink display for touch-typing and e-reading only.
