Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 get Google Wallet app with Google Maps to follow shortly
Fitbit has announced new features for the Sense 2 and Versa 4 smartwatches. You can now use the wearables to make contactless payments via Google Wallet. This tool is a new option alongside the existing Fitbit Pay feature. As on other devices, Google Pay requires you to unlock the device before making a payment, aiming to prevent fraudulent purchases if your watch is stolen or lost. You can choose to pay using any card stored in your Google Wallet; it is worth noting that not all banks support Google Pay, and coverage differs worldwide.
The company has also announced that it will shortly add Google Maps to the Fitbit Versa 4 and Sense 2 gadgets; the exact launch date has yet to be specified. When open, the app will provide real-time step-by-step directions to your desired destination. Information about your journeys, such as the step count and your heart rate, can be viewed at the end of your session. The feature requires a Bluetooth connection to your smartphone, where you plan your route.
Fitbit notes that Google Maps will only work if it is the sole app in use on your watch. For example, you cannot use it with the exercise app simultaneously, so you would need to rely on the Maps exercise log. The Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 typically retail for US$299.95 and US$229.95, respectively. At the time of writing, the devices are discounted to US$199.95 and US$149.95 at Amazon in the US.
