Fisker Inc, a US startup, has unveiled its all-electric SUVs, claiming that the company’s offerings will have a better range than Tesla’s Model Y. The announcement was made on Wednesday in Los Angeles at the 2021 LA Auto Show. The Fisker Ocean Extreme and the Ocean Ultra will reportedly have ranges of 350+ miles (563 KM) and 340 miles (547 KM) respectively. In comparison, Tesla Model Y has a range of 330 miles (531 KM).
Fisker also took the wraps off of its cheapest SUV, the Ocean Sport, with a 250 miles (402 KM) range. The EV maker will start production of all these models next November.
To get these Tesla-beating ranges, Fisker is employing batteries from CATL, a leading Chinese battery manufacturer. The Ocean Extreme and Ocean Ultra will have nickel-based batteries, while the Ocean Sport will have an iron-based solution. The difference in battery technologies is also reflected in the pricing of these models. The Ocean Extreme will cost US$68,999, while the Ocean Ultra and the Ocean Sport will come in at US$49,999 and US$37,499 respectively.
