We've earlier reported about Xiaomi's plans to spin-off Redmi as a new sub-brand and the launch of a possible high-end 48 MP flagship phone to do the honors. Now, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has shared official photos of the new handset on Weibo, which could possibly be named the Redmi X. These photos confirm the presence of a 48 MP AI dual camera setup at the back and a glass back with a choice of three colors.
The glass back is the first for a Redmi phone and the color variants include Black along with Violet Blue, and Purple Red gradient options. Lei Jun has confirmed that the phone features 2.5D glass on both the front and rear sides. He also affirmed that these images are the real deal and not renders. The Redmi X moniker is still a speculation but there have been a few references to this name on Chinese sites.
From the images shared by Jun, we see a protruding dual camera setup with a dual-tone flash at the bottom. The words "48 MP AI Dual Camera" are clearly seen. A fingerprint sensor is also seen, which means that this phone will not be shipping with an in-display fingerprint reader. At the bottom, we see the text "Redmi by Xiaomi" indicating that this is indeed a new sub-brand.
Apart from the above features, not much can be discerned from the images. However, the handset's TENAA certification does indicate that it will feature a 6.3-inch FHD+ display and possibly, a 4,000 mAh battery. The Redmi X is expected to be officially announced tomorrow so stay tuned for more updates.
