Much was written about Xiaomi's ambitions in the EV sector already, but now things are heating up. After detailed images of the SU7 and SU7 Max models were already leaked in recent weeks, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has now announced the first EV technology event, surprisingly before the new year 2024 even begins.

Rumors about Xiaomi's ambitions in the EV sector have been circulating for years, and now the first Xiaomi cars are about to be launched relatively soon. On the morning of Christmas Day 2023, Xiaomi officially announced their first launch event, that will explicitly focus on EV-technology. In addition to teasers on the Chinese network Weibo, the event is also being advertised on the social network X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that the event entitled "Stride" will also be of global interest.

EV technology event, not a product launch yet

In an attempt to pre-emt rumors, the Xiaomi CEO also made it clear that the event on December 28, 2023 is not yet a product launch event, instead, the focus will be on the technology behind Xiaomi's first e-cars. In China, the Stride event will start at 14:00, Xiaomi fans in other parts of the world will have to get up early for this one though. In Europe the event will start at 7.00 am CET or 6.00 am GMT, New Yorkers should probably stay up late until 1.00 am.

New pictures of the Xiaomi SU7 and SU7 Max

After Xiaomi's first EV series called SU7 had already been leaked by from a Chinese certification website, more pictures of the Xiaomi SU7 and Xiaomi SU7 Max have surfaced in recent weeks and days. The photos below, which were published on CarNewsChina among others, are still relatively fresh. In the leaked promo images from a photo session, we also see an "Azure Blue" color option for the first time. Incidentally, Xiaomi is charging the equivalent of around 380,000 euros or $420,000 for breaking the NDA agreement, so the new cars are already raking in cash before the first model has been sold.
