Eurocom launches Armadillo 2 ultrabook

Eurocom's Armadillo 2 ultrabook supports 16 GB RAM modules

The 14-inch Broadwell-powered ultrabook supports up to 32 GB RAM and offers two storage devices.

After 16 GB DDR3L SO-DIMM modules were announced, it was only a matter of time until laptops officially advertising support for these modules arrived on the market. Eurocom's new Armadillo 2 ultrabook is one such laptop, offering up to 32 GB RAM with two SO-DIMM slots. This is possible thanks to an Intel Core i5-5200U processor and its memory controller. There is no dedicated GPU - Intel HD Graphics 5500 takes care of all the graphical matters.

The ultrabook's 14-inch matte display has a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels (~157 ppi) and claims 700:1 contrast ratio. The buyers can choose from a variety of 2.5-inch SATA (HDD, SSHD or SSD) and mSATA (SSD) drive for a combined maximum storage volume of 2 TB. A 4-cell 44 Wh lithium-ion battery powers the ultrabook - considering the laptop's compact size (340x240x21 mm / 13.4x9.45x0.83 inch) and low weight (1.8 kg / 3.97 lbs), it's a decent capacity. Eurocom claims up to 7 hours battery life. Pictures of the available ports can be found below.

As usual with newly announced Eurocom laptops, the new Armadillo 2 is available immediately. The most basic configuration (8 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, no mSATA, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Windows 8.1) will cost $1000. The maximum configuration (32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD + 1 TB mSATA SSD, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Windows 7 Professional) more than quadruples the price. The laptop can be configured and ordered directly from Eurocom here.
