Epic Games Store preps for Halloween by announcing spooky horror title as next free game

Amnesia: The Bunker and Samorost 3 are currently being offered as free games on Epic Games Store. These two will be available until October 23, 2025, and after that, there will be a new free game, which has just been revealed by the storefront.

As Epic Games Store reveals, Fear the Spotlight will be offered as a free game from October 23 to October 30, 2025. This would make the game the penultimate PC giveaway for this month.

Regarding the game itself, it's a non-confrontational horror title where players get to take the role of Vivian, an awkward librarian assistant. As the story unfolds, the protagonist, along with another character, named Amy, finds themselves in a twisted version of their school.

Per the lore, this twisted version existed before a tragic fire, and Amy gets pulled into the void by a spotlight-headed figure. The main goal of the players is to find and save Amy. As players navigate through the story, they get to solve simple yet engaging puzzles.

These puzzle pieces together the dark mystery behind the fire. This free game is also praised for its somewhat unique control mechanics, and there's proper support for controllers as well (8BitDo Ultimate 2C curr. $25.49 on Amazon). Its visual effects, especially the CRT-style screen filter, enhance the overall atmosphere.

However, the horror elements of the game are relatively light. There aren't any traditional scares, and some players also note that the suspense from enemies isn't as impactful as in some of the notable horror games.
