E Ink displays are still primarily used for e-readers like the Kindle Paperwhite, but the technology is also ideal for digital posters. This is because E Ink arranges color particles to form an image, so that power is only consumed when the image displayed changes.
Thanks to a reflective surface, E Ink displays look almost like printed paper and do not necessarily require backlighting. E Ink Prism 3 was specially designed to allow household appliances, walls and fashion accessories to change color at the touch of a button. Cream Guitars is now using this very panel for the front of an electric guitar. The panel can adjust color areas in 64 individual segments, so it is not possible to display a photo or text, for example.
However, the colors and patterns can be programmed via a corresponding app so that they can be matched to a particular song, for example. To do this, the smartphone is connected to the guitar via Bluetooth. The E Ink display can show seven different colors, including white, black, yellow, orange, blue, red and green.
