Reviews for the Dell Inspiron 14R-N4110
Budget performance. Dell's affordable Inspiron family has always been popular with everyday users, but does this 2011 14-inch Inspiron have the bang for the buck needed to continue the lineup's appeal?

If you’re looking for a truly excellent budget laptop, the Dell Inspiron 14R (I14RN-1364PBL) isn’t quite it—it lags behind other similarly priced and outfitted machines in every performance area. Still, it’s a sturdy little machine that should be able to handle almost any everyday task within reason. You can certainly do worse. But with other machines, such as the more powerful and longer-lasting-on-battery Editors’ Choice Asus U56E-BBL6, you can also do better.

Compared with the other budget laptops on the market, the Dell Inspiron i14RN4110-8073DBK offers portability as its main attraction, while notebooks like the Editors' Choice Asus U46E-BAL5 and Editors' Choice Asus U56E-BBL5 offer a cleaner metallic design, WiMAX 4G broadband connectivity, WiDi 2.0, over 7 hours of battery life, and better overall performance. The Dell Inspiron i14RN4110-8073DBK will appeal more to the value shopper who's not concerned with horsepower, but those that are looking for more bang for their buck can pay $50 more for the Asus U56E-BBL5.

The Dell Inspiron i14RN4110-7616DBK is a capable 14-inch laptop with a relatively affordable price tag and a solid feature set, but performance and battery life are not its strong suit. It'll handle the basic home productivity tasks, but there are better performing laptops in this price range. For $100 more, the Asus U46E-BAL gets you Core i5 processing power, a bigger hard drive, more memory, and 2 hours more of battery life.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
