Panasonic has introduced Titanium Gold limited edition of the Lumix S9 today. This edition features a special three-layer finish, namely a deep black base coat followed by a mirrored lacquer layer and a tinted clear coat, which gives the camera its characteristic color. This finish tries to create a metallic shimmer and is supposed to be particularly durable at the same time.
The limited edition camera also comes with a leather strap with titanium and limited Lumix stickers. In addition to that, Panasonic has introduced a new version of the regular Lumix S9, which currently retails for $1,498 on Amazon. This one comes with a silver instead of black body and white, blue or black leather. This gives buyers a total of four new camera variants to choose from, but it should be noted that the specifications and internal hardware remain unchanged.
The highlight of the Lumix S9 are its compact dimensions. Despite the 24MP full-frame sensor, the camera weighs just 403 grams and still offers five-axis stabilization. That said, the camera doesn’t have a viewfinder, but the 3-inch touchscreen with 1.84 million dots is foldable. Moreover, the camera is compatible with all lenses using the Leica L-mount. The Lumix S9 does, however, have two significant drawbacks. First, the camera does not support external flashes and it only has an electronic shutter.
Price and availability
As mentioned above, the Panasonic Lumix S9 in Titanium Gold is limited to just 200 units. This limited edition is offered exclusively at the Panasonic Online Store for $1,599. This price includes the compact and color-matched 18-40mm f/4.5–6.3 zoom lens. The version with the silver body and optional black, white or blue leather will launch at the end of October.
