Aaeon has introduced a new Intel Panther Lake-powered ultra-compact SBC with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and dual 2.5G Ethernet. The board is already available for purchase, sporting a hefty price tag.

Aaeon has introduced a new Intel Panther Lake-powered SBC in the Pico-ITX form factor, spotted by LinuxGizmos. Dubbed the PICO-PTH4, the compact SBC is powered by Intel's Core Ultra Series 3 chips, and can be equipped with a generous 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM.

To be more precise, the compact SBC can be equipped with an 8-core Core Ultra 5 325, 8-core Core Ultra 7 355, 12-core Core Ultra 5 338H, and the 16-core Core Ultra X7 358H chips.

Needles to say, the Core Ultra X7 is by far the most powerful of the bunch, boasting a 71% lead over the Core Ultra 5 325-powered entry-level SKU in synthetic multithreaded benchmarks. The median Cinebench scores for the chips have been listed below.

 Single-coreMulti-core
Core Ultra X7 358H5044164
Core Ultra 5 338H5013840
Core Ultra 7 3554772636
Core Ultra 5 3254552430

The chips also come equipped with healthy NPUs, with the Core Ultra 5 chips packing 47 TOPS of peak performance, and the Core Ultra 7 and X7 chips packing 49 and 50 TOPS respectively.

Decently powerful iGPUs are also on offer. The Arc B390 iGPU featured in the highest-end Core Ultra X7 chip is particularly potent, and is roughly as powerful as an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q GPU.

Compared to the AMD Radeon 890M iGPU, the B390 is over twice as powerful. Clearly, moderately intensive GPU-based workload should be easily doable on the highest-end SKU of the PICO-PTH4 SBC.

The Aaeon PICO-PTH4 SBC can be equipped with up to a 16-core Core Ultra X7 CPU.

The I/O on offer has been detailed below:

  • Dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, dual USB 2.0 internal headers
  • Dual 2.5G Ethernet (Intel I226, PXE boot supported on one)
  • HDMI 2.1
  • Dual RS-232/422/485
  • 4-bit GPIO
  • I²C/SMBus support

Other notable details and pricing

Storage and expansion options include an M.2 2280 slot (PCIe 5.0 x4), M.2 2230 slot (PCIe 4.0 x1), as well as an FPC connector with PCIe 3.0 x4 support.

The SBC measures in at just 100 x 72 mm, or roughly 3.94 x 2.84 inches. Advertised operating temperature range appears to be -20° to 70° C (or -4° to 158° F), and MTBF value is rated at an oddly specific 1,300,259 hours.

As for pricing, the Core Ultra 5 325, Ultra 7 355, and Ultra X7 358H SKUs are priced at $1,288, $1,456, and $3,065 respectively. It's worth noting that the first two variants ship only with 16 GB RAM, while the X7 SKU ships with the aforementioned 32 GB.

Pricing for the Core Ultra 5 338H variant remains unclear as of this writing.

All told, hobbyists with smaller budgets can check out something like the ARM-powered Radxa Rock 4D, currently available for just $131.99 on Amazon.
