Clockwork has released the uConsole, a compact PC that utilises the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 Lite, ClockworkPi units or an SoC based on RISC-V. The Clockwork uConsole can be ordered now from US$139, which also includes a small display and a backlit keyboard, among other features.

Clockwork has unveiled the uConsole, a compact PC with a keyboard and a built-in display. Described as the realisation of a 'fantasy console', the uConsole utilises a 5-inch IPS display that operates at 1,280 x 720 pixels and a keyboard with 74 backlit keys. According to Clockwork, the latter is customisable and reprogrammable, which is always good to hear.

Additionally, Clockwork has paired the uConsole with 18650 batteries, which power either the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 Lite, ClockworkPi A-04, ClockworkPi A-06 or the R-01. For reference, all but the R-01 feature modern ARM Cortex CPU cores. In comparison, the R-01 is based on a single RV64IMAFDCVU RISC-V core clocked at 1 GHz. Incidentally, RAM volumes vary wildly between models, with 1 GB DDR3 afforded to the R-01 variant but 4 GB LPDDR4 included in the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 Lite.

Moreover, while the latter has four Cortex-A72 cores and a VideoCore 4 GPU, the ClockworkPi A-06 makes do with twin cores of the same variety and four Cortex-A53 cores, plus a Mali-T864 GPU. Meanwhile, the ClockworkPi A-04 only has four Cortex-A53 cores and a Mali-T720 GPU. Separately, all variants ship with a Wi-Fi antenna; Clockwork offers an optional LTE modem too. Currently, the uConsole starts at US$139 for the R-01 edition and rises to US$159 with the ClockworkPi A-04. By contrast, Clockwork sells the RPI-CM4 Lite edition for US$189 and the ClockworkPi A-06 edition for US$209. You can find more details about Clockwork's various uConsole models on its website.
