If you're into fast-paced first-person shooters with tight gunplay and a dark sense of humor, Steam has a deal that could be worth a look. Postal: Brain Damaged is now available for under $5 – its lowest price yet.

Boomer shooters bring back the wild spirit of the ’90s with fast, over-the-top action and pixelated gore. Inspired by classics like DOOM, Quake and Duke Nukem 3D, Postal: Brain Damaged fits right into that tradition. It’s a spin-off of the notorious Postal series, known since the late ’90s for its dark humor and unapologetic satire. Brain Damaged starts where reality stops – in a coma. The Postal Dude, the series’ cynical anti-hero and perennial screw-up, finds himself trapped in a twisted nightmare filled with madness, pop culture parodies and surreal absurdities.

When it comes to gameplay, Brain Damaged is a true boomer shooter through and through – featuring fast movement, sharp gunplay and a chaotic arsenal. Forget open worlds or realistic ballistics; this is all about tight, maze-like levels packed with enemy hordes just begging to be blasted apart. It’s made for fans of old-school shooters who aren’t looking for deep storytelling, but crave raw, unfiltered action served with a healthy dose of intentionally bad taste.

Reviews: Fun gameplay, but humor doesn’t land for everyone

In PCMag’s review, Postal: Brain Damaged stood out for its fast-paced shooter action, drawing clear inspiration from classics like Doom and Quake while delivering smooth, satisfying gameplay. The intense boss fights, diverse weapon selection and pounding heavy metal soundtrack also earned praise. However, the humor didn’t land for everyone – critics found it tasteless, outdated or overly exaggerated, relying heavily on old memes and crude jokes. The pacing was another point of criticism, with some stretches lacking action and slowing the game’s momentum. These issues contributed to a final score of 3.5 out of 5.

Brain Damaged holds a Metascore of 71 on Metacritic, while players have given it a more generous User Score of 8.1. Reception on Steam is even stronger – around 95% of over 7,400 reviews are positive, reflecting a much warmer response from the community.

75% discount on Steam

Postal: Brain Damaged was developed by Hyperstrange and CreativeForge Games and released in June 2022 by Running With Scissors in partnership with Hyperstrange. On Steam, the regular price is around $20 – but a 75% discount, running until June 24, brings it down to roughly $5. According to SteamDB, this is the lowest price the game has ever had.
