Rumor | Cheap Redmi laptops with Intel Core processors could be coming to India with prices as low as around ₹20,000 (US$262)
An interesting rumor about Xiaomi’s potential plans for introducing cheap Redmi laptops onto the Indian market has come to light. According to TechPP, the Chinese OEM will offer Redmi notebooks with Intel Core processors at stunningly affordable prices: ₹20,000 (US$262) to ₹33,000 (US$432) has been suggested. Obviously, at those low prices users cannot expect too much in terms of specs, but it seems i3 and i5 chips will be utilized for the most part.
This means these will not be the same Xiaomi RedmiBooks that were recently released in China, as these laptops featured Ryzen 4000 APUs from AMD. The rumored Redmi laptops for India will also differ from the Xiaomi Mi Notebooks that were just launched in the country as they start at a much higher price level of ₹41,999 (US$550). It appears Xiaomi wants to fill in another gap in the market by offering lower-specced affordable laptops by utilizing the Redmi brand.
According to the same source, the upcoming cheap Redmi laptops will come in a range of colors and may also be actually manufactured in India, which would help keep shipping costs down and allow for a lower price point. It’s possible the devices might be revealed by August, with a base Core i3 variant costing around ₹20,000 (US$262) to ₹25,000 (US$327). The laptops would likely operate with Windows 10 and therefore not based on Chrome OS.
