CS2: Faze Clan kicked out of the Blast.tv Austin Major as MongolZ stomps them 2:0, moves on to semis

A raucous Moody Center in Austin, Texas, watched The MongolZ boot FaZe Clan from the BLAST.tv Major quarter-finals on 20 June, clinching a 2-0 sweep that few fans predicted. The Mongolian side grabbed Mirage 13-9 before edging Anubis 13-11, sending FaZe - playing with superstar stand-in s1mple - home in 5-8th place and leaping into their first Major semi-final.

On Mirage, The MongolZ led 8–7 at halftime. Their AWPer 910 was the top performer with a 21–11 scoreline and a 1.51 rating, while karrigan led FaZe with 20–14 and a 1.41 rating. The map finished 13–9 to MongolZ.

On Anubis, the half score was 11–11, tied, but The MongolZ pulled ahead late. Techno and Senzu led their side with identical 22–14 records and ratings of 1.45 and 1.38 respectively. FaZe’s best on the map was frozen at 18–16, 1.36 rating, while EliGE had 22–18, 1.20 rating. The final score was 13–11 to MongolZ. The clutch-heavy 910 finished the match with a 1.35 rating, the crowd voting him Player of the Match.

S1mple’s return to LAN main stage proved rocky; he mustered an average 0.80 rating over the two maps, bottom-fragging for FaZe, while karrigan’s 32-31 K-D line wasn’t enough to drag the team over the line. Post-game, the veteran IGL admitted the roster’s season-long struggles and hinted at off-season changes.

The MongolZ will meet paiN Gaming on Saturday for a shot at the grand final, carrying the banner for Asian Counter-Strike and a growing list of European scalps across this Major run. FaZe, meanwhile, exit Austin early and empty-handed, their Major drought stretching into another season.
